My friend the internets
Feb. 4th, 2006 09:57 amI miss you, dearest internets. Life is so dull without you. As far as I can tell, it only involves work, work and more work, with some muscle aches thrown in for good measure. We're here in our new house.. we spent last night here. All of our furniture isn't here, in fact.. our bed isn't here. My parents brought me my old bedroom suit for the guest room.. they have always made sure to let me know that it's mine and I could take it with me when I moved out, but I've never had room for it before. (Think antique white with fussy curves and gold accents. And yes, the bed has a canopy. A pink one. We can't wait for M's best friend to come over again to sleep in it.)
Today is our official moving day.. yesterday was a prequel. Yesterday it was 50 degrees. Today it is snowing. M and my dad are doing most of the moving, and they have already brought most of the stuff over. I think we just have the upstairs remaining, for the most part. My mom and my aunt came down on Thursday to help me clean, and we spent.. six hours in the kitchen, or eighteen work hours. It's not that it was excessively, strangely dirty, but let me tell you, it is clean now. Many nooks and crannies, that kind of thing. I don't really know if other people clean like we do when we move into a place, but this house was dirty. I had no idea just how dirty it was until we started working on it. For one thing, I was sure that all the white baseboards would need pained asap, as there were black marks and stains all over them. The cleaning of them was somewhat hard work (sliding around a room on your knees on hardwood floors) but they are looking soo nice. The listing realtor said that she thought the previous owner (the pastor and his wife) used the fireplace all the time, so we're assuming that some of the dirt is from that. However, the television cable that someone had pulled up into what will be our computer room.. they didn't even bother cleaning up the wood shavings, and the wood was all dried out and old.
Anyway, because we spent so long in the kitchen, we didn't get nearly as much done as we had planned, and yesterday was the day of interruptions. Two cousins and a baby came down to help/watch, and we kept gettng sidetracked with something, and then Dad and M would come in with a load of stuff that required decisions on placement and cleaning of areas. As a result, I ended up finishing the smallest bathroom by myself last night, along with one last set of baseboards, and the sweeping and mopping of the computer room. M was over at the other place, packing up another load and getting some stuff we needed (like, pillows.) When he got home, he cleaned lights and scrubbed the bathtub because we still haven't gotten the main bathroom cleaned beyon what is necessary to use it. We fell into bed at midnight, and now we're up and ready to go again.

So, today is for packing up the last of the other stuff, moving it over here, more cleaning and more unpacking. I am feeling a little guilty about sitting here doing nothing, so I'm off to find something to eat and get going on the day. The internet was working yesterday morning, but we never had time to try it out. Hopefully tonight will be better for that, and maybe we'll even have our own computers set up. I hate typing on the laptop, so ignore the typos. How can you people stand using regular keyboards instead of the ergonomic type?? It's so much harder! Anyway. Off I go, no more procrastinating.
