Meeting the neighbors
Mar. 26th, 2006 02:05 pmAs I've said before, we're kind of out in a psuedo-rural area. There are no houses RIGHT next door, but we have one a few hundred feet (yards? I suck at distances) on both sides and in the back. M has been out in the yard planting L's flowers and cleaning up some more branches, and the neighbor to the right walked over with her son and friend. (The friend was our main competitor in buying the house, so M was apparently very gracious and explained at length that we hadn't been out in the yard too much working yet because we've been super-busy on the inside, work work and more work all leading to new projects. Truth is.. that it isn't like that at all, really. We sure have a lot to do but nothing structural and very little that HAS to be done, but he didn't want her to think she had let something perfect get away from her.) Anyway, I saw him talking to people and changed clothes so I could walk out and meet these people. (I know! This introvert is so making progress! Meeting people voluntarily--who would have thought?) They seemed nice, which is a good thing, and talked about how they liked the neighborhood, which is also good.
Then they mentioned that there was an open house today at the house just behind us--it's been for sale since before we saw this one for the first time. It's a lot, lot more expensive than our house was. (Some of you in disgusting housing markets are going to not like me for this part, but it's something ridiculous like 4,000 square feet, with two garages, a pool, a mongo-gigantic basement and is relatively new--and it costs $360,000.) So, we walked over to see the house! We were pretty excited about it because we have long wanted to go check it out, just for the fun of it, and now we got the chance. And even better.. we weren't devastated that we didn't buy it instead of our house. As a matter of fact, we like our house better. It was large enough that there were a lot of WTF spaces. (As in.. WTF would you DO with this room?) The storage areas were fantastic, though. The basement was.. so big that I can't even describe it. We have a lot of stuff we don't know what to do with, though, and I still can't imagine what we would do down there. So, that's always nice.
We're having a fabulous, relaxed and happy weekend. M told me I should post last night so I wouldn't be lying in my journal, but we got too lazy to go shopping in Lexington. M decided that he would just return the filing cabinet during his lunch break, and he had heartburn so we decided that our dinner plans would be overkill for last night, and that just left the cable for his phone, and so we went to WalMart instead and picked up regular USB cable with an adapter that would fit, so it all worked out. And now I have told you, and M can stop being concerned about my lying tendencies.
(Oh, by the way, like the icon? I made one for myself since all the cool kids have icons of themselves when they were little, and I am a hopeless joiner. Ha. Anyway, this is one of M's favorite pictures of me when I was small, so hopefully I'll get an "aww!" kiss out of it.)
Speaking of all the cool kids, a gazillion happy birthday wishes to
