m gets a birthday party
Jul. 9th, 2006 11:11 pmI care absolutely nothing about the World Cup. I just needed to get that out because I've been thinking it for weeks. As a matter of fact, I just double-checked with M that it is, indeed, soccer. Because I wasn't sure. Sooo not my thing.
My dad is really funny. He called this morning with our plans for the day, though he posed it all as conversation and asking questions about our plans. Basically, we were to be coming up to visit, and should leave early enough to stop and visit Mamaw and Papaw (his parents) on the way up to my other grandfather's house. (This is something we have often wanted to do but rarely have been able to.. most recently because he's been going to church during that time.) I would also need to bring the camera, and have it ready if we stopped at their house before we came up to the grandfather's house for any reason (we do, sometimes) to take a picture of M's reaction to his wrapped birthday present. Then we would need to come back to their house after the grandparent visiting, so M could get his present and they could "see his reaction". And he wouldn't tell me what they "had done" regarding the present. But everyone else in the family knew about it and had seen it. My dad is a little on the bossy side so I just laughed about it and did as I was told, but I was really confused because they had already told me what they got him for his birthday, and I couldn't figure out why he would have any particular reaction to it worth putting on film.

This is pretty much why.
My parents turned his birthday presents into a wishing well. If you can't read the text, the white part (his birthday card) says "Wishing You A" and there's a banner cut-out below that reads "Happy Birthday". They were very pleased with the play on words there with "wishing". The bucket (which was hanging by a string and not just sitting there, though it's hard to see) was full of candy. The crank.. well, it was actually just paper, though Dad had him opening it before he found that out. The box contained a drill press, the two bars are clamps and the top square thing is some sort of.. well, it's a square, actually. It really was very cute, but it is so not my parents to come up with something like this. I mean, on my birthday I got cash, and a hastily-constructed card made out of a Taco Bell napkin. Hmm...
Also, he bought the shirt last week, and is extraordinarily fond of it. I have been meaning to post a picture of it, too, so this was a very nice two-for-one deal.
