Although my day got off to a craptastic start, the good thing about mornings like that is that it will usually only get better. First, there were the dogs that live next door--they were pissed off and they would not shut up. At two in the morning. They woke me up, and I do not typically wake up from outside noises. This was, in part, a blessing, because I was in the middle of a nightmare. It was also bad because both of my arms were dead asleep and hurting like crazy, and also, I desperately needed to go pee. (Big surprise there.) I am always afraid to get up in the night following a bad dream because.. I don't know why. I just am. Then I tossed and turned for a few hours, and was finally getting some nice sleep when the alarms started going off. I had another hour (it was M's) to sleep, but it was more tossing and turning. When I finally dragged myself out of bed, my nose started running urgently, only--guess what! It wasn't so much running as bleeding! Gushing, actually! I seriously contemplated going back to bed but I was responsible and went to work. Being a grown-up sucks sometimes. But the day really did improve after that, so that's good.
I can't believe how much stuff we're getting done lately. Yesterday morning, I came up with the idea of selecting one item on our joint to-do list each and committing ourselves to completing it this week. One item. M decided that he would see my one item, and chose FOUR. And he's done them all already! Right now he's working on a fifth, and we have incidentally finished off a couple of other (non-priority) items. I am almost too embarrassed to tell you what I promised myself that I would do this week because you will know just how much of a procrastinator that I am. Remember the giant bedroom wall project, where we stripped wallpaper, spackled and sanded and spackled and sanded and sanded and finally painted? We did bring most everything out of the room before we started, but we kind of neglected a few things in the second closet, including a pile of shoes. When the project was done, we threw the whole bundle of dusty shoes in a garbage bag and shoved them into another closet, where they have remained since July. I removed one pair from the bag in October or so and cleaned them up, so it's not like I think it's going to be an impossible task... just a few swipes with a damp towel, for goodness sake. It has been on the list this entire time. See, here's the thing with my obsessive lists--they only work if you actually do the stuff on them. ;) On the other hand, impending parenthood has apparently given us a massive amount of discipline for getting all those little things done so we can stop worrying about them. I believe they call it "nesting". ;)
I finally got around to buying myself some art for my cubicle wall at work. As I was pulling the protective cardboard corners off of it so I could take it to work, I noticed that one of the main colors in the (abstract-ish) picture really went well with the walls in the computer room. So after close to three years, I get around to buying myself something pretty for work and then I promptly use it at home instead. Whee! It looks better here than it would there anyway. And speaking of work, I got my new ergonomic keyboard today. I can type again! And my wrists won't ache!
