Jan. 25th, 2007 10:05 pmThey have this healthy living initiative going at work these days, and our resident medical-type person has started free blood pressure screenings. When she sent out the email this time around, it occurred to me that as a pregnant lady, and one with at least some amount of risk for pre-term labor, it probably wouldn't hurt me to actually keep a closer eye on my blood pressure. I was proud of myself for coming up with this idea. But guess what! It was high! I was not so pleased after I realized that maybe it really was a good idea to monitor it at work. And then I totally freaked my husband out over it, who spent the day in a rotten mood worrying about his wifey-poo! How lovely! I'm going to assume that it was a fluke, but continue to keep a close eye on it. I really think it probably is. She told me that I could come by once a week or so to her office (which is very, very near mine. I can see it, if I stand up.) to monitor it if I'd like. I did have it done last week at my appointment, and although they didn't tell me what it was, they didn't comment on it being high, either. I guess we'll see how that turns out.
I received letters in the mail today confirming the childbirth classes. If I was not planning to deliver at this hospital, it would cost $60 for the long class, plus $15 each for the two shorter ones. It seems that the cost of said classes is significantly less here than elsewhere. I wonder why? I also wonder how they would "prove" that you weren't "planning" to deliver at that hospital. They did ask for my clinic name, so I guess that's part of it, but for all they know, I'm stringing a bunch of clinics in various locations along. I'm not. but that would be sort of funny, and plenty weird.
I might not need to work on increasing the weird, now that I think on it.
Also, I want a Wii.
Random Tip for Opera users: the Notes function is really handy for storing things you want to type in over and over that just don't fit in a regular field in that form under Tools-Preferences-Wand. I use this a lot for stuff like login names, account numbers*, other address besides home addresses, or you could also use it for additional URLs that you type frequently--that sort of thing. To access the Notes feature, you can go to Tools-Notes. Click on "New note", and enter your text. You can also select some text and right-click on it and choose "Copy to note". Then, next time you're filling in a form, right click on the box and choose Insert note ->, and then the note you want to use. Ta-da! You can also press the down arrow key in that box to bring up a list. I never used the Notes feature until I realized that you could use it for that, because I have actual paper on my desk and various note-taking programs on my computer if I needed them. It's very neat, though.
*This isn't necessarily wise if you share your computer, and I don't know how secure the notes are, in general, so don't get too carried away with this one at my advice, okay? I'm only using it for special circumstances where the wand doesn't work.
