continuation about names
Mar. 6th, 2007 10:12 pmI greatly enjoyed the comments on the last post. I meant to reply to them individually but I took a nap instead, so maybe tomorrow. Mademoiselle Anonymous helpfully solved the name problem for me, and so I shall announce here that Ducky shall be named Dominique. Ahem. YEAH, RIGHT. Not that there's anything wrong with that name, but coincidentally, I happen to have a friend named that. Imagine that. I'm sure it wasn't her who posted an anonymous comment with that suggestion, either. Even if I did CATCH HER IN THE ACT this afternoon. *laugh*
Okay, so we're still not telling what names Bertha and Lou correspond to, or what Ducky might actually be named. However, because I am a good friend and I found it so interesting that of all the names in the world, two different people mentioned Grace in the comments today... that Grace is actually a prospective middle name. Interestingly, my mom also guessed it (though in her case, I accidentally gave her a clue as big as a barn by telling her that one discussed middle name is one that she didn't like, but I thought she'd like everything else.) It is definitely not in the running for first name status, and will probably not make it as a middle name either, in the end. The nice thing about the name is that it goes really well with a lot of names (including Bertha and Lou, but especially Bertha) and has a.. well.. graceful sound. So, Grace! An actual name that we are still talking about, if only for a middle name! Are we Grace people or is it just that it's so fashionable now that it came up?
I told M that the internets said that the mommy gets to pick the name. He could not refrain from pointing out yes, my female friends all think so. Anyway, I came up with a Plan after posting last night. We are now going to try to refer to her as Bertha for a week or so, and then by Lou for a week or so, and hope that one of them seems more natural. Secondly, we're going to return to the lists of names and see if we can find anything else that we like. Just in case.
The rib is feeling a bit better today (knock on wood) and yesterday. I was even able to do some laundry and straightening up. I am getting really tired of even thinking of the stupid rib so I'm hoping it's on a steep path of improvement because really, I do think it's time to move on. ;)
