My dad asked me last night what time we'd be up today. (That's his way of trying to give me a question that cannot be answered with a "no" but it sadly does not work for him.) I informed them that we would not be up today because we were just up on Thursday and it was awful and I don't want to do it again. That made them laugh, at least, and not get pissy with me for once. Honesty is the best policy? I would have thought telling them that I thought coming up to visit was awful would have made them mad but, no. That is a good measure of just how awful Thanksgiving was, I guess. We have plans for next weekend to spend the night with them on Saturday, though. We have to be in Lexington at 8:00, then we'll probably have lunch with some friends before heading to Mom and Dad's for the rest of the weekend.

We have to be there at 8:00 because of the annual shopping spree that M's employer hosts. They give you a $500 gift card at Sam's, and you have three hours to spend it. If you don't use it all up, you lose the remaining money. If you go over, you pay the difference. It's SO MUCH FUN. When do you ever get a chance to spend free money wildly like that? Last year we bought a new digital camera, thereby continuing the pattern where our digital cameras do not cost anything. Well, the first one we had did cost quite a lot, but we weren't married yet, so it wasn't my money, and he got a really good deal on it. The second one we cashed in these bonus points M was getting at an internet training site at work. It's really a fun idea because if they just gave you the cash for a Christmas bonus, it would be great but it would just go in your account and you would be done with it. This way, you get to buy a lot of stuff all at once without feeling bad. M was saying last night that he's been looking forward to this since March. Anyway, since it's at Sam's, your options are somewhat limited because they don't carry just everything--it's a membership-style warehouse, kind of like Costco (I think. I've never been to a Costco. I see there's one in Louisville and I would like to go just because I want to know what it's like but I am not paying for a membership just to go once.)

Anyway. One of our suggestions during the past year has been that we might buy ourselves a Wii, because we are nerds and we have SO much free time on our hands. When else will we have money that we can freely spend on worthless crap, though? We've been on again off again over buying it, and then we were off for a good long while. Then we decided that maybe we SHOULD buy it. (Yes. Should. Because it is a Need and not a Want.) ... And that's when a brief Google search pointed out that Wiis? You can't buy Wiis this year. They are not going to have a Wii for us to purchase. So we don't get a new toy, and we also don't have any idea what to spend the money on anymore. At the moment, our best guess is that we'll go there and buy a bunch of smallish random things, possibly including a pressure washer (boring! boring! boring! but you should see our house, situated as it is under sixteen thousand giant trees.) We don't want to buy too much in the way of food because we're not going home afterward, and we don't want it to spoil. So! You have a bunch of free money to spend at Sam's. What do you buy if you can't buy a Wii?

We put the Christmas tree up today. When I say "we", of course I mean "M". I spent most of the time holding Miss E and firmly requesting that she not get into mischief. She is becoming mobile, though not by crawling. She rolls as a method of transportation, and she has really gained control of her walker. The other day, I was on the phone with my mom while unloading the dishwasher. The dishwasher, by the way, is a fun playland full of shiny shiny things that look very tasty. I had no idea but Evelyn is sure that it is so. She kept zooming towards the open dishwasher with her arms outstretched, and I kept telling her no and scooting her back across the room. Finally, I scooted her back and turned her around so that she was facing the opposite direction, told her no again, and she started screeching in a total fit of temper. My mom laughed and told me to stop sassing my baby. Sassing! Of course she would take up for the grandbaby, and never mind that sassing was one of the things that she never tolerated from my brother or me. It was really cute, though. It will be much much less cute later on. ;) Another cute thing that she did recently was help me pick out fabric. I had six prints of fabric laying there, so I started holding them up two at a time for her so that she could choose which one she liked best. (Yeah, too much free time.) She liked all of them, but after a second of wavering back and forth, touching them both, she would start petting one or the other. The best part is that it eventually became clear that she liked one of them the best, and would choose it every single time over the others. Frogs on lily pads, that's what she likes. She is so much fun lately. Especially since she is going to bed an hour earlier!

Insert conclusion here, after a short paragraph about how much nicer weekends are when you actually get enough sleep and get out of bed at a reasonable time. I would write it myself but I hear the bed calling to me fiercely.
