Dec. 11th, 2007 11:39 pmMom and Dad came down to spend the night with us, and Evelyn has decided to prove me wrong in everything I have said about her. WHY do kids do that, and more importantly, how do they even know to?? I fed her some applesauce after we ate our dinner, and just because I have been explaining to them that she doesn't like rice cereal, I fix her a little bowl. She has had banana, sweet potato, rice cereal and applesauce so far. The first two she hated. The rice cereal she sort of tolerated, and I've fed it to her several times with limited success, but over the last few days, she's been pretty inclined to just let it sit in her mouth without even swallowing it, so I finally decided to give up on it. So I fixed her some just to show her grandparents how she does with it, and... she ate it greedily, finishing it off and her applesauce for the biggest solid food meal she's had so far. Which.. cool! But I was JUST telling them she wouldn't eat it, and Dad was whispering to her that she should show me and eat every bite, and then she did. WTF?
Then I was telling Mom on the phone today about her bedtime ritual, and how she generally knows right away it's time to sleep, and will go down without too much of a fuss. What was I thinking? I have been fighting with her for an hour and a half, and M is rocking her now. She's exhausted because we didn't get her to bed at the right time, what with having company, but her routine was just shattered, so she is refusing to sleep. I'm off to bed in a second because if she doesn't go to bed soon, I'll have to get up with her again. That's our deal. I usually put her to bed, but if I fail, M takes her until 1:00. Any wakings after that (or really, if we're both in bed already) are mine, although he gets her up and changes her diaper for those, too. This usually works out in my favor, but when it sucks for me, it really, really sucks. ;)
Squawk squawk squawk.
The parents are here because we're going for our annual Christmas shopping excursion tomorrow. I often don't get much Christmas shopping done, but we have a good time. I'm a little concerned about how fun it will be since I have to drag around a baby, but we'll be fine. I should get out with her more, I guess. I am just really a very lazy person with that sort of thing. We do go places but I have to bitch and moan about it first. :)
I make really excellent soup.
Hmm. Turns out that I don't have anything else to say, and I am about to fall asleep in my chair so I should go check on the baby and then go to bed. Hopefully I won't be up all night with the little twerp who is trying to prove to Granny and Grandpa that she is the boss. They know, sweetpea, they know.
