The Yayers Lose Their Hair
May. 25th, 2008 10:25 pmYou can never accuse me of rushing into anything. Last summer, my niece was here a few times and she watched What Not to Wear, which kind of got me hooked. I watched all these people get cute haircuts and I felt the urge to get adventurous. With one brief foray into a disappointing cut that no one would even have noticed if I hadn't mentioned it in December, I have not given into temptation (due to timing or procrastination or laziness) until this weekend. Two places were fully booked up, and I gave it up as not meant to be, but the third time was a charm. A neighboring county's prom was that day, so everyone was full of made-up teenagers. I only got in because of a no-show. Yay no-show! The stylist had pink hair so I was a little concerned, but my haircut was a total success. I look younger, thinner and prettier. My husband thinks it's hot. It's hard to say because I've only fixed it myself once, and that wasn't at home where I had time to fiddle, but it could be the best haircut I've ever gotten. Here I am playing this hair up like this and I have to go ahead and say that I don't have any pictures of it yet. I mean, it's still on MY head so it's not like I am suddenly a superstar or anything but it looks good. She also asked me if I wanted my brows waxed, post-shampooing, and we took a brief detour to get that done, and I swear, it didn't hurt. The lady that usually does it makes it hurt like a son of a bitch. She had nice soft hands, and I guess that it's a sad commentary on what life after a baby is like, but I thoroughly enjoyed the hour I spent in the chair (she was slow) getting my hair played with and no baby climbing on me. Lovely!
Although. Just before I went to bed last night, I had to go ask people what year it was, because she gave me a Rachel. M made fun of me because he asked exactly what I had told her I wanted, and when I described it, he said, "...so you told her you wanted a Rachel, huh?" It really isn't, though, it just sort of looked that way after I had fiddled with it for a while. And hey, if it looks good I guess I don't really care too much what decade I'm in.
Anyway, then we came home tonight and I all but scalped my husband's head. He was long overdue for a haircut, and he has been thinking of shaving his head, so we went with a near-bald approach first. It will take a bit of getting used to, but we think it looks good. It makes him look younger, smarter and meaner. (Mean is kind of a good thing, as he is now a daddy of a little girl who will grow up sooner than we expect.) So, between us, we lost fifteen pounds of hair this weekend.
We had a nice time this weekend. We had a little steak cookout last night, and then a regular day at my grandfather's today. E managed to get a nap today--I know I keep mentioning it, but she is extraordinarily hard to get to sleep so she often doesn't sleep enough on Sundays with my family and then she's a grouch on the way home, or she falls asleep and then wants to stay up all night. She talked nonstop all the way (two hours) home. She's been talking about bears and birds.. her language development has taken a leap this week. My niece also taught her to sign "love"... supposedly. Little dork won't do it for me so I haven't seen it.
Boyo doesn't have to work tomorrow (yay!) so we have a full outdoorsy day planned. Yard work and car washing and all sorts of stuff! We have plans to wear her in the mei tai on out back and bring the playpen (aka baby prison) outside, plus her naptime. And then we got home and checked the weather, and now it seems like they're expecting rain. Darn. Ahh, well, I don't like yard work anyway.
