I just got so aggravated at DIRECTV that I called them to bitch, inflicting my raspy hard-to-understand voice on some poor underpaid Indian woman, and also, straining my abused throat.
Here's what happened:
I set our account up to autopay by credit card, so when I got their next bill, I checked it out to be sure that it all looked okay. Imagine my surprise when it showed a $2.25 late fee. I was sure that I hadn't set that up after the due date of the first bill, so I pulled that bill out of the filing cabinet.. and, sure enough, I had written "autopay, amazon, 3/2/05". (god, i love it when my organization-freak skills work out for me--the amazon is a reference to which credit card it was that I used.) I checked the account online and it all looked correct, but they hadn't actually BILLED the credit card until 3/20. So, to recap:
3/2: I set up autopay.
3/11: Due date of bill.
3/20: They billed the card, and added a late fee of $2.25 because it was late.
WTF?! They bill me late and then charge me for it?! I DON'T THINK SO.
So I called her, and explained the situation. (I actually said, "I fail to see why this is my fault.") And she rushed to give me a credit of $2.25 (actually, she probably would have done anything to get me off the line since she could barely understand a word I was rasping out.. I should have tried to milk her for a free month's service for my trouble.) And then I was happy.
Until, probably, next month.
