Do you ever read something so profoundly obvious that it makes your eyes roll back in your head as you struggle to understand exactly how something could be quoted in news publications as an expert opinion? Well. I was reading this little article tonight about how a Dutch court turned down a demand by a group of citizens who wanted the Dutch government to arrest President Bush when he arrived this weekend for violating the Geneva Conventions. Here's what made me laugh:
The boy and I decided that we should stop spending so much money, so we promptly went out this afternoon and spent a fortune. Oh, well, we accomplished a LOT, so I won't complain too much. Super-motivated people like ourselves might be doing their Christmas shopping in May so that they may leave their presents in another country so they can stop worrying about shipping when they think of something to purchase. The surprise is that we agreed on this plan and are actually carrying it out. We're notorious for coming up with excellent plans and never doing anything about it. Also, his family all have birthdays in April and May, so we have two sets of things under discussion, and we're still pretty much done with everything except for his dad's Christmas present, and his sister's birthday--but we know what we're going to buy for her, so that doesn't count. We also bought a Mother's Day present for my mom (who is annoyed with me because we're not coming up tomorrow). And groceries and random WalMart items. Not that our shopping habits are all that exciting.
I am really sleepy, so I will leave you now in favor of my nice, flat bed. But, lest you're too disappointed, I'll leave you with a link: Sometimes, people take this Ebay thing a little too far..
In the judgement, dated on Tuesday, the court said that the case was political and that the demands "could have far-reaching consequences for US-Dutch relations".. Huh. Arresting a visiting president may cause trouble. Who would have thought?

Date: 2005-05-08 08:08 pm (UTC)We cleaned up our clutter today--or at least, we've gotten most of it put away. I guess that we were scared straight, so to speak, because of that link. Oi. She must be crazy.
