Our little Scandinavian club has a newsletter that comes out every few months. They also have, in the last year or two, started sending as many as possible by email as .pdf, to save on postage and printing costs. They've been pushing that, and also mentioning the upcoming website lately, and they're making some progress. People seem to be excited about the club moving into the technological age. Remember, most of them are elderly folks with little to no initial interest in the internet. It's a big deal that they have an interest now!

Today we were at the Syttende Mai picnic, and the newsletter thing came up again. One of the benefits of receiving it by email is that you get it in color, where the printed one is black and white. One of the ladies heard this, and turned to Andy, who is one of our good friends. "In color?" she said in surprise. "Who's paying for that?"

Perhaps they are not moving into this century quite as quickly as I thought.

I sent my mom a link one time to something that she'd been curious about - Lucia. I explained that the page was in Swedish, but the pictures would show her what I was talking about when I talked about Lucia.

She emailed me back and asked me why I didn't just turn my computer on to the "English setting" and send her the page again so she could read it as well as see the pictures.
