Why do all email programs have to suck so much? I have spent much of Thursday, Friday and today tearing my hear out over email. I am trying to switch but Outlook is thwarting me. I have been using PocoMail for a couple of years but it has a few quirks that I just can't live with anymore. It took two days of work to get the old stuff into Outlook, through a long involved process that involved downloading Netscape 4.7, of all things, and also Eudora, and it also made a trip through Outlook Express to get to Outlook. Isn't that crazy? I also made a valiant attempt to use Thunderbird instead of Outlook but unfortunately, that didn't pan out. Why is this so hard? Email. Old. Why isn't there a selection of good programs? I want it to be like Outlook, only not so freaking broken, or slow, or uncustomizable. PocoMail has amazing potential but it needs professionalized. I guess I make it harder on myself since I have eight mail accounts that I check. Which.. yes, is totally unnecessary. Seems like Outlook hates that. And while I'm kvetching, I could say that it really irritates me that people make it so hard to import/export messages. Export.. okay, I can kind of see that one. But if you want people to use your product, I think that supporting an import from the most popular email programs would kind of be a GOOD IDEA. But maybe I'm just overly naive.

Naive, and also, too lazy to create my own. I don't have the energy or desire to create my own software, really, because it would require learning how to do stuff and I apparently...... well, one thing that I can do is to be very hard on myself. I'm going to try to stop doing that occasionally. Also, I would much rather bitch about what someone else did wrong than figure out how to do it right. ;)

In any case, now it's almost midnight and my weary bones are reminding me that I am old and in need of my bed. M and I have spent about six hours watching movies today. That's a long time to be flopping around trying to find a comfortable position. (The best one is laying on my belly with my head in M's lap but a) he likes to cover my ears to make me sleepy and b) laying down makes me sleepy and c) he smells like Cheetos. (Which is probably an improvement from when he smells of pork. Never mind about that... inside joke.)

I'm not much on web-based email. :)

Why didn't Thunderbird pan out? I love it, and exported all my Outlook stuff to it without too much trouble. I use it to check 10 accounts. :) If I can help, I'm happy to!

Honestly, I don't remember. I did a lot of tinkering this weekend and it all runs together. I loved the idea of using Thunderbird, so it was the first one I tried to make work. My export problem wasn't with Thunderbird--it was that my original mail was not in Outlook format at all, so I had to go through various programs to get it back to compatible. One big reason that I had Outlook in mind is because suck as it does, the calendar function is very nice and useful. I don't know. I'm kinda picky, I guess. What prompted this was a desire to do a major overhaul of my accumulated email and restructure folders and rules. My current plan is to get it looking the way I want in Outlook and then see where I am.. I might try these things again. Having said that.. I have routinely tried other email programs (including Thunderbird) and have never been fully satisfied.
