Random Things About Me

I've finally compiled my list of forty random things about me. I'm sure you're all very excited. :)
- I cannot sleep if my ear is uncovered.
- I met my husband online, on a mud (online game) called DarkScapes.
- I thought he was a pervert when we first met. ;) (Glad I was wrong..)
- I always add a link when I mention DarkScapes because I designed the site and it's one of my favorites.
- I'm (figuratively) blind as a bat--I've worn glasses since I was eight.
- I made my dad sign a contract allowing me to get contacts as soon as I turned thirteen. I still have the contract, but have never had the contacts.
- My older brother was killed in a car wreck when I was sixteen.
- I still don't think I've gotten over it.
- I was a member of the Academic Team in high school. I feel like a huge dork for admitting this.
- I've been seriously propositioned by more people for a threesome than I have for conventional sex. I must seem like the swingin' type.
- I'm actually not.
- When I was little, I always wanted someone to play cow with me. When I was mostly grown, I made my niece, who was a toddler at the time, play with me. She was confused.
- I have a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts. I couldn't bring myself to be a business major, which was required by my college for all CIS students, so I created my own degree, with more IT classes than required by the actual degree.
- They got the last laugh, though, as I've been unemployed ever since. :)
- I don't really believe it's the fault of my college degree, I just said that for effect. That's something else I do sometimes.
- The main thing I learned in college was that I like myself, flaws and all.
- I have a secret Barbie fetish. My older cousin and I played with them up until.. well, we probably still would if we ever got around to it. :) We're talking serious dramas and lifelong characters.
- I used to be embarrassed by that, but have since decided that it's not worth worrying over.
- I have a very hard time with worrying. I do it compulsively. I'm trying to stop. I'm making some progress.
- My favorite band is Counting Crows. I honestly cannot understand how someone wouldn't like them.
- I was born here in Morehead, Ky. I've also lived for a summer outside of Detroit, two years in Columbus, GA, two years in Augusta, GA, and three years in Memphis, TN. A summer in Stockholm, too. Sorta.
- I'm not an army brat--I'm a construction brat. ;) My dad was a superintendent for Holloway and built big bridges and roads and stuff.
- Keith Whitley (he recorded "When You Say Nothing At All".. the original, GOOD version) was my second cousin.
- I didn't really know him before he died when I was 9 or so, but he appears frequently in party pictures from my dad's youth.
- Being around people exhausts me.
- I would rather have one close friend than twenty unclose friends.
- The smell of vanilla (in perfumes or candles or similar) makes me incredibly nauseous.
- My uncle used to steal my nose when I was a little girl. I still don't care much for him.
- I'm rather easily amused. I can spend hours playing with string. (I learned to tat last year and have been somewhat obsessive about it, although not so much recently.)
- I had absolutely no interest in cooking until I got married, but now am quite into trying new things.
- This is particularly interesting since I've been a notoriously picky eater and am just now trying and enjoying things I've always said I hated.
- I will not, however, relent in my refusal to eat raw seafood. You gotta draw the line somewhere.
- I get very freaked out if someone other than me or Magnus uses my computer.
- I often refer to myself as Bitchy Pookums, and I often sign up for stuff under that name.
- The name I use on muds is Kadi. I've been told it suits me, but I don't really think of myself as that anymore. My
best friend called me Kadi, in real life, for three years, even though we met before I started mudding.
- Magnus and I never directly call each other by our real names.. though we don't use Kadi and Yancey, either. Baby and love, that sort of thing.
- I tend to procrastinate--there's a vacuum cleaner sitting unused in my livingroom right now, for instance.
- I was always the overachiever in school, but I didn't necessarily care a whole lot about my grades, though they were always 3.5 and above. I honestly liked learning.
- I'm extremely open-minded. I actively taught myself to be this way after having learned a completely different outlook, but now it comes naturally.
- This will be pretty obvious to my faithful journal readers, but it takes me a very long time to get to the point. Any point. Sometimes I lose my point when going into six other points.

Date: 2003-04-15 02:34 pm (UTC)I'm really sorry that you lost your brother. I think when you lose someone very close to you, life is never quite the same again. I'm not sure that you ever "get over it" but you learn to live in a different space.
Now, this is a really interesting list and each time I look it over, I see that I like you more and more! Now, speaking of #10.....

Date: 2003-04-15 03:09 pm (UTC)Learning to live in a different space.. that's a good way to put it. Thanks. :)
(Notice how pointedly I'm not going to comment on that last statement? *tease* and *grin*)

Date: 2003-04-15 03:24 pm (UTC)My tatting thing is really weird. I don't crochet or knit or anything, but I got *really* into tatting, out of the blue. I haven't done much at all in the last month or so.. hoping I get inspired again soon. :)
Glad you enjoyed the list. I really enjoyed yours, but apparently I never got around to commenting about it. (Sorry.) :)

Date: 2003-04-15 02:59 pm (UTC)Grr... so do I. Only I didn't put it there so that means Blondie did and hasn't bothered to put it away yet... ;-)

Date: 2003-04-15 07:46 pm (UTC)A fellow Counting Crows fan! Yay! I would be halfway in love with Adam Duritz (in a nonromantic way, of course) if I didn't think he would be impossible to be around for more than ten minutes. I'm not so patient with the tragic sort anymore. *grin* But I still think he's a creative genius and can appreciate his angst from far away!
Love,
Bitchy Pookums :)

Date: 2003-04-15 09:48 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm a bit over the tragic/drama/morose type too. It's great to appreciate angst from far away, where you can turn off the CD and go outside and play on the swing sometimes :) His voice and lyrics will always give me chills though - particularly in 'Anna Begins'.
