The plan for tonight was to get the computer room in a semblance of order, and I think we accomplished that. Well, kind of. There are no boxes in the floor anymore, and even if everything isn't it its correct spot, I can at least sit down without tripping over loose cords. I really need to do more work than this but I have had a headache all day and I really don't want to. It was odd because I suddenly had this giant spot in my eye that looked like I had stared into the sun for an hour, and when it finally went away, I had a lovely migraine in its place. I really had never had that happen before, but I was strangely pleased to be able to connect one of my maladies to another.

I did, however, proofread M's resume. He called me mean, and also intimated that I had begun getting on his nerves as soon as I got up this morning. Then he thanked me when I was done, but only after implying that I was dragging things out to prevent him from playing computer games. I think it's pretty clear that I should not ever be in a position where I can judge people based on their resumes because I am absurdly picky when it comes to formatting and consistency. (Hi, dear Mosaic Minds staffers, you who have put up with my excessive desires for straight quotes and valid xhtml and staff pictures placed and sized just so--shall I take this opportunity to lavish you with praise and shmoogles for putting up for me, and did you get the joke there?)

Anyway. Life is slowly getting back to normal chez Yayer. We've spent more time in this room tonight than we have since the first night that we had our computers back, when we sat and read through a zillion LJ posts at once. Our house is still not done.. we have stacks of boxes in the sunroom still, and my parents are probably coming down this weekend to pick up their stuff, so it's going to be pretty embarrassing to have made such limited progress.

Now, on to the important stuff. We have white baseboards and trim throughout the house. The computer room is currently a sickly blue color that really has to go. (The master bedroom is the same color but we're not tackling the crappy painted-over-bubbled-wallpaper walls* until everything else is done.) Our desks are brushed aluminum and pale wood--they look like this. The hardwood floors (oak) have a distinctly red cast to them.. not like cedar, but something of the feel of them, although lighter. We are in this room most of the time, and so I'd like it to look nice. The art we have for this room is mainly blue and gray, and the overall style of the room is kinda edgy and modern with the desks and matching bookcase. What color should we paint the walls?

*I've mentioned this twice now, and you may be wondering exactly how we bought a house and then noticed that the master bedroom walls are in such bad shape. The answer is that there is no overhead light in that room. There's a fan, but no light, so there will be one very shortly. Anyway, you really can't see it much when the lights are off, but now that we have lamps and such in there, it's pretty noticeable. Speaking of there not being a light, why is there no light? The living room doesn't have an overhead light either. I think that's so weird.

Hrm, tricky one the walls (I love the desks) ... my vote goes to a yellow of some kind (ochre is nice in my place with white trim and red based floor boards) or white given the floorboards and then some art work, or a nice beige that's of the same hue as the desk wood...??

I'm not so sure I want you to lavish me in such a way *lol*.

I have no idea what color you should paint your wall and I'm glad I don't have to paint a wall. I painted a tiny little bathroom lavendar and it was damned hard work. I don't like damned hard work. Lavender with white trim is really pretty, but probably not for your computer room. Can I be any more disjointed?

*laugh* Probably not.

I bet lavender would be pretty (perhaps not for this room) but I don't think I could get M to go for it anyway. At least I'll have him to help when we get started on it because I sure wouldn't want to do it by myself!

I'm a firm believer in the Behr.com Color Smart tool. When you don't know what colors work together, this tells you. If you can get an idea of the color of your floors, or artwork, or desks, you can select it as a primary color and have it suggest coordinating colors.

I love that thing... though I have typically used it for website colorschemes instead of painting walls. ;) I'm just having a hard time figuring out where to start!

G found it weird here when any of the places we lived in came with overhead lights. I guess it's not so common in Sweden. We have a few here but none in the living room or master bedroom (which is actually Ingrid's room). My guess is that they figure you don't want glaringly bright lights in your bedroom and that you prefer to have lamps in the living room so you can place them near your chairs/sofa for better reading light.

It's so weird. Lamps are nice but they shouldn't be the only thing capable of lighting the room! It was the same thing in the place we lived before.. no lights in the living room. At least there, one outlet was connected to a switch by the door so we could turn our lamps on automatically. I'm one of those people that really like to have a lot of light so it probably annoys me more than it would most poeple.
