It took us over an hour to drive about six miles on a straight road. Three lanes of traffic each way. This place, it kind of sucks. Meanwhile, the power is out. Presumably, this has made the traffic worse, with no stop lights working, but since the traffic sucks at all times, who can tell? We are back in the hotel right at the moment because we are planning on having leftovers from lunch for dinner, and we needed to put them in the fridge. Not that the fridge is working. We do have a cooler, and I had an ice pack that I stuck in the tiny freezer compartment of the fridge last night, so there's that. I went down to get ice a (THE POWER, IT IS ON! IT IS A MIRACLE!) few minutes ago but it was so dark that I turned scaredy cat and came back. So I started writing a post here because M was examining the facilities, so to speak, and then we weren't sure what do next. (Can't shop much if no one has working cash registers but yet, can't do much while sitting in a dark motel room either.)
M thinks we should wait a few minutes to let the chaos settle down before we return to the road, but I'm thinking.. how much worse can it get, and how much will it help to delay going out.. considering we only have a few hours left in which to shop. We have been doing some very manly things today. We went to a gun store, a knife store, two tool stores and a music store. I stayed in the car in two of those places. I did go into the knife place with an ulterior motive. Last Christmas I bought M this really really neat key knife multi-tool at thinkgeek.com. It was ten bucks, and it looks just like a key. Fits on a keyring. He loved it. It's probably the best gift I gave him (as a surprise) in the entire time we've been married because he loves the idea of carrying a knife but hates the practical side of actually carrying a knife in his pocket everywhere he goes. He always has his keys, after all. Anyway, it broke a few months back, and I was planning on buying him another one. But, shipping was going to be nine dollars, so I didn't want to just buy that, so I didn't get it in time for our anniversary and was saving it for Christmas, thinking I'd either find something else to go with it that would make the shipping costs reasonable or I'd get so desperate for a good gift that I wouldn't mind forking over twice the cost to get it here. But! They had them! And they had others, even, and we bought one for my cousin for Christmas. And that, in short, is the only darned Christmas present that we have bought in this entire time of throwing money around and filling up the trunk with our bargains. Sheesh. That was part of the reason we were coming here, after all. Or so we say every year and we almost never actually do any Chistmas shopping while here.
We have been abusing my camera phone, and have several posts in draft form, with pictures. I told M that we shold probably just create a gallery entitled: Why People Shouldn't Be Allowed to Use Camera Phones (We Take Pictures of Shit You Don't Want to See.) Fun stuff. We really need one of those tiny cameras we could actually lug around with us at all time. Need, you know. Basic survival stuff.
I think M is just tired of sitting in traffic, and I think it is my DUTY as his wife to make him stop reading and take me clothes shopping. Yes. Aren't you all jealous that I am not your wife? Must go--pestering in progress.
