Happy New Year!

Today was very pleasant. We have a family tradition of congregating at my grandfather's house and eating cabbage rolls on New Years, and today was no exception. Apparently, it's good luck to eat cabbage on the first day of the year... or something.
I am feeling a little disgruntled now because I fell asleep for the last few minutes of the drive home, and I have that post-nap feeling... which is compounded by really, really not wanting to go to work tomorrow. The mail man stopped by to chat with M on Saturday, and informed him that state employees have Tuesday off because of Gerald Ford's death. I assumed that he was either wrong and it was just the post office being closed, or he meant federal employees, or it wouldn't apply to us as we're a pseudo state agency. I googled it just to make sure, and I was right--there is no such decree. We did get the day off when Ronald Reagan died, so it wasn't completely impossible. Still, it did make me feel a bit let down. I had a good weekend, though, so I can't complain too much. Well, I can, and I will--but I shouldn't. :)
Last night, at 19w1d, M officially felt Ducky move for the first time. There was some question about whether or not he had felt something a week or two ago, but this was a grand tumbling movement.. the biggest that I had ever felt, too, and it went on longer. Today, after I finished lunch (including a glass and a half of punch) he began rolling around in the same way, so I nudged Mom--and she felt it too! I was surprised that it worked out that easily, after M waiting impatiently for weeks. It's amazing how fast things change. Just two days ago, I couldn't even feel that sort of movement. I tried to let my aunt feel a few minutes later, because he bounced around for half an hour in the same manner, off and on, but she never could feel it when he was doing it. I am thinking that the poor thing was on a sugar high from the punch. I sure was.
