I have both family drama and a story about being verbally accosted that I could write about, but happily, I can bypass all of that if I just post a lot of pictures. Yay!

First of all, Miss Ducky got her first mail today, from [livejournal.com profile] carrieb, [livejournal.com profile] big_bubba and Erik.

Ducky's mail

I edited that picture in so many places I began wondering why I was posting it. You get the idea, though. It was excessively cute so, like proper nerds, we took a picture.

We unwrapped the box and went "awwww!" a lot when we saw how cute it was all wrapped up. But wait a minute! That isn't baby wrapping paper!

wrapping paper.

That's... bride-to-be wrapping paper! And, of course it is, because this package comes to us from Ducky's future in-laws (and spouse)! :) That made us laugh a lot and applaud said in-laws for their creativity. Now watch them say it was actually just the only paper they had, and then I will feel guilty for posting a picture of it and calling attention to it. Anyway, since it arrived so very much in time for the shower on Saturday, we briefly considered saving it and taking it with us to open. Then we consulted reality, and tore into the box like the overly excitable new parents-to-be that we are.

Ducky's goodies.

Look! At the quilt! (Which we regrettably covered up too much of in the picture so it's harder to see.) Isn't it gorgeous? There are free-form ducks and things in the quilting! And the ducky things! The shoes! The bib! The robe! Squee! I have been dying to buy her a little robe because they are so cute they make my eyeballs bleed, but I have been trying to refrain because we're trying not to buy stuff until after the shower. And those are just the cutest little ducks ever. Yay! Thank you so much, lovely friends! I am going to have to stop gushing because I think I have broken my exclamation point from overuse. We love it. :)

But, while I'm here, I'll add one more picture. I made seven (identical) heating pads this week--again, I used [livejournal.com profile] reebert's pattern at Mosaic Minds, located here. One is for me, the other six are for the people throwing my shower.. including my twelve-year-old niece, who will probably be a little WTF about it. ;) I have no idea if the rest will like it, actually, but they will pretend that they do and they'll appreciate the effort, so it's all good--at the very least, they're not expecting me to give them anything so I should get some bonus points for that. I'm roughly estimating that I have about two dollars in materials in each one, what with the twenty pounds of rice used and the two sachets of lavender and the fabric... which I bought for $1/yard. Two bucks for a sweet little gift? Not bad at all.

Heating pads.

Tomorrow, I have a half day of work, which I am excited about, and a lunch date with my boy, which I am VERY excited about. Then I have a blue million things to do in the afternoon to get ready for the weekend. Meanwhile, I was looking at my leg just above my sock this evening and telling M that my ankles didn't seem to be as swollen as before. Then I noticed that my calves were shiny, and looking a bit larger than normal, so I slipped off my sock and found that OH MY GOD, it's not that my ankle isn't that swollen, it's that it's so swollen that it's just not showing much differentiation above the sock ridges. My feet are so puffy that I don't even recognize them. I can't see bones. My toes look like sausages. I can't stop staring at them in horror. I was on my feet a bit this afternoon, so hopefully that was the reason. I'm going to bed now, and hoping that they will be significantly less swollen in the morning. No freaking wonder my shoes hurt my feet!
