I have both family drama and a story about being verbally accosted that I could write about, but happily, I can bypass all of that if I just post a lot of pictures. Yay!

First of all, Miss Ducky got her first mail today, from [livejournal.com profile] carrieb, [livejournal.com profile] big_bubba and Erik.

Ducky's mail

I edited that picture in so many places I began wondering why I was posting it. You get the idea, though. It was excessively cute so, like proper nerds, we took a picture.

We unwrapped the box and went "awwww!" a lot when we saw how cute it was all wrapped up. But wait a minute! That isn't baby wrapping paper!

wrapping paper.

That's... bride-to-be wrapping paper! And, of course it is, because this package comes to us from Ducky's future in-laws (and spouse)! :) That made us laugh a lot and applaud said in-laws for their creativity. Now watch them say it was actually just the only paper they had, and then I will feel guilty for posting a picture of it and calling attention to it. Anyway, since it arrived so very much in time for the shower on Saturday, we briefly considered saving it and taking it with us to open. Then we consulted reality, and tore into the box like the overly excitable new parents-to-be that we are.

Ducky's goodies.

Look! At the quilt! (Which we regrettably covered up too much of in the picture so it's harder to see.) Isn't it gorgeous? There are free-form ducks and things in the quilting! And the ducky things! The shoes! The bib! The robe! Squee! I have been dying to buy her a little robe because they are so cute they make my eyeballs bleed, but I have been trying to refrain because we're trying not to buy stuff until after the shower. And those are just the cutest little ducks ever. Yay! Thank you so much, lovely friends! I am going to have to stop gushing because I think I have broken my exclamation point from overuse. We love it. :)

But, while I'm here, I'll add one more picture. I made seven (identical) heating pads this week--again, I used [livejournal.com profile] reebert's pattern at Mosaic Minds, located here. One is for me, the other six are for the people throwing my shower.. including my twelve-year-old niece, who will probably be a little WTF about it. ;) I have no idea if the rest will like it, actually, but they will pretend that they do and they'll appreciate the effort, so it's all good--at the very least, they're not expecting me to give them anything so I should get some bonus points for that. I'm roughly estimating that I have about two dollars in materials in each one, what with the twenty pounds of rice used and the two sachets of lavender and the fabric... which I bought for $1/yard. Two bucks for a sweet little gift? Not bad at all.

Heating pads.

Tomorrow, I have a half day of work, which I am excited about, and a lunch date with my boy, which I am VERY excited about. Then I have a blue million things to do in the afternoon to get ready for the weekend. Meanwhile, I was looking at my leg just above my sock this evening and telling M that my ankles didn't seem to be as swollen as before. Then I noticed that my calves were shiny, and looking a bit larger than normal, so I slipped off my sock and found that OH MY GOD, it's not that my ankle isn't that swollen, it's that it's so swollen that it's just not showing much differentiation above the sock ridges. My feet are so puffy that I don't even recognize them. I can't see bones. My toes look like sausages. I can't stop staring at them in horror. I was on my feet a bit this afternoon, so hopefully that was the reason. I'm going to bed now, and hoping that they will be significantly less swollen in the morning. No freaking wonder my shoes hurt my feet!

I like your toes. Of course, I like sausages, too.

You may NOT eat my toes. Well. Maybe just a nibble.

Erik is racking up brides this year! If Ducky doesn't work out he has a few fall backs. That's a great explanation for the wrapping paper. Very clever of me, indeed.

The truth is, I specifically bought that paper to wrap little girl presents with because it was the only pink paper in the baby wrapping section. Then, as I was wrapping up presents to two other little girls, I noticed it said bride-to-be and I was really pissed! False advertising! Pink! Umbrellas! In the baby section! Why does it have to say that? I was hoping no one would notice *l*. I almost went with Swedish Christmas wrapping paper, but thought pink was more appropriate.

Anyway, I'm glad you like the things and don't already have the ducky stuff! I tried to take a good picture of the quilt and quilting but I really suck at taking good pictures of quilts. I even tried to be artsy and drape it over the crib for a picture but the crib is about 10 inches away from the bed so it was too crowded. I really love the little ducks I was able to quilt on there! It was a new skill for me and I was worried, but it turned out great I think.

And I really love the heating pads! I would like to recieve one if I was throwing a party. Heck, maybe I should make myself one.

(Since my other comment was all about me. . . selfish, selfish me)

They were really fast and easy and best yet (for me).. the pattern is extremely forgiving. You don't even particularly need to sew straight lines because the mounds of rice hides it all. Now I have to figure out how to wrap them, though, because they're absurdly heavy.

are they cool-able too? we have one that can either be frozen or heated. we tend to prefer it cold, though.

Well... I hadn't thought about it, but it should work. A quick Google search finds that people recommend that you can put uncooked rice in a freezer bag and use it as an ice pack. I would say that it might make the lavender lose its smell but honestly, the microwave (and time) does that too. So, no guarantee but I'm saying yes, you could. Good question. :)

*grin* We did discuss the possibility that it was a mistake but then we stumbled upon an explanation that made it really funny, so we decided to go with that one. You could have just said that was exactly what you had in mind, no one would have known. ;) I guess they MAY not end up together ;) but it is a cute idea! Our secondary theory was that it was left over from your sister's wedding.

I think I had seen that ducky stuff at Target and M had to forcibly drag me away so I wouldn't buy it, so you did very well. We have a bit of a rule that we can't buy too much ducky stuff because we know other people will. The good news is that the closest Target from my hometown is sixty miles, and so most people probably won't be shopping there. That was also the excuse I gave M as to why I should go ahead and buy it but luckily, he did not let me cave. Of course, HE comes home from the store all the time with little ducks and things so it hardly seems fair...

Thanks again. :)

I still really like your explanation and wish I would have thought of it b/c it would have been hilarious. We'll just pretend it is true *nod*

I didn't think you had a Target near you, which is why I went ahead and bought them, but then I realized that Wal-Mart also carries the brand and was sure you must have them already but I'd already lost the reciept. I'm glad you didn't have them! M is a wise man. Sometimes.

We don't have a Target near us, really. It's forty miles or something--we've gone in there twice since I've been pregnant, and both times it was just to see different baby stuff than the other stores have. Normally, we skip it when we're out shopping unless we have something specific in mind to buy there. So, you were almost right. :) I am doing really well with not buying little things, but all bets are off after this weekend.

I don't think I've seen this particular design at our WalMart anyway--it's much cuter than the ducky things there.

If it makes you feel better... your feet do actually return to normal. :-D The day I looked down and didn't recognise my feet anymore because they were so skinny and had definition was a good one.

I was really hoping that they would have gone down today but sadly, that wasn't the case. I can feel my feet jiggle when I walk. It's creepy. It's nice to be reassured that it does eventually go away. I would hate to have my feet look like this forever!
