I interrupt this birth story to let you all know that we are instilling a sense of civic duty in our daughter very, very early.

Evelyn voted!

I braved the big bad world today for my first solo outing with Evelyn to take her to the polls. I would like you all to consider the strength of character and the strong social responsibility I feel that would make me take my ten-day-old baby to vote in a primary (read: useless) election while recovering from surgery and still adrift in terror at taking her places by myself. I am a beacon of light in these dark times, am I not?

Okay, okay. I get paid four hours for voting. I decided it would be worth my while to venture approximately seven houses down the road for four hours of pay. You have to love working for the state sometimes. God bless America.

Oh my goodness! Look at that sleepy face and those little feet and that button nose and all that hair!

I take it you survived the first outing? It's terrifying, isn't it?

I still can't believe she has that much hair, either. I was so not expecting that. :)

Yes, it was terrifying. I had this planned as my first outing, though, because it is so very, very close and I knew that it couldn't go THAT badly. I almost caved this morning and ran out to vote by myself before M left for work but I was strong. ;)
