LJ has refused to let me post an entry since Thursday. This is a test.

Edited to add... it let me post this, but it will not let me edit this entry by pasting in the one I wrote on Thursday. WTF? After some testing, there seems to be some sort of limit on how much text can be saved at once, or maybe just how long it can be, or some combination. It was not a particularly brilliant post or anything, but how am I supposed to chronicle Evelyn's first real bath now that her belly button is free from the cord stump if I can't post about it here? LJ is aware of the problem, apparently, but seems to think that fixing it so the "majority" of users are not affected is enough. I disagree, and my wallet, which is paying them for the service of posting, is also in disagreement. Hmph.

it's not just you :(

from [livejournal.com profile] lj_maintenance yesterday:

Hello,

This is an update regarding the previously mentioned DDOS attacks impacting site performance. We've implemented several short term strategies to help mitigate the severity of the attack. While we've tried to handle these attacks with the fewest number of users impacted, there have been, unfortunately, times when the site has been unavailable or slow, and some users have experienced errors when posting.

These are all short term solutions until the attack subsides or until we are able to absorb the traffic. Information you provide us about specific problems posting comments or entries will be processed and used to help us best tweak our mitigation application. Also, these issues are unrelated to the recent suspensions mentioned in news.

We apologize for the downtime, and want to let you know we are working across multiple levels - network, hardware and application - to help prevent us from having more broad downtime going forward. As always look here or to LiveJournal Status for up to the minute updates about site availability.

I saw that, and have been checking back to see if they actually updated it with a "hey, look, it's fixed!" message. But no, of course not. I noticed you said that you had been having trouble as well. This really is getting on my nerves since.. why am I always affected by their unable-to-post glitches? That's actually why I have a paid account in the first place--they had some sort of problem that affected free accounts on a particular server, and someone (anonymously) bought me a one-month paid account after M mentioned it in his journal that I couldn't post.. and I didn't want to give up the paid features afterward and so I've been paying for it ever since. M, on the other hand, has a free account and can always post when I can't. Argh.

Well, I think that it's just the time showing up wonky, because I just answered a few minutes ago. :) But sure, we can blame LJ for that too, why not?!

Oh, I bet you're glad that horrendous thing is gone. Ugh. Thankfully for us, Rhys' dropped off after only 7 days. That thing was SO RANK! Not helped by the fact that Frazer has a hyper-developed sense of smell and can't deal with such odours without gagging. Made diaper-changing interesting!!

I want to know what, in our evolutionary history, decided that having the remains of the umbilical cord ROT OFF was a good idea.

*shudders*

I am! Hers just kept hanging on and on.. she was almost three weeks old when it came off! I totally agree. It did not strike me as cute in the slightest. My cute little baby did not need a piece of meat rotting off her belly! Yuck.

I think they were trying to prevent us from having to hear about a "stump" that was once attached to your insides. Ewww :)

Still, I want one. One day.

It's really just as gross as it sounds, but I doubt LJ had any noble motives in their suckage. :)

Glad to here you're (or rather Evelyn is) stumpless now :)

I had a lot of trouble posting yesterday too, so you definitely weren't alone :(

I've been having LJ trouble as well, but didn't even try to post yesterday. I know a couple of other people who are having major problems, too. I hope they get their act together. I want to hear about her stumpless bath!

Did they leave hers really long b/c of the c-section? I was so disgusted with Erik's. When it was fresh it was about 8 inches long. I wanted them to go in and trim it down, but they said they couldn't b/c the clip they put on it would sound an alarm if they took it off. So stupid!

Nope, it was short, at least. I can't imagine them leaving it that long! Gross! I'm glad it's gone.

I tried to reply to you a non=related tech question since I know you have some ideas on my dilemma. I had posted it on my LJ the other day, but I know you have been busy with baby and such, but also figured you might have ideas on what I am looking for, seeing as you have lots of experience in the area of my need! Hmm to cut and paste or just have you look at my latest entry. Just link to me and if you have ideas and time away from baby will you see what you can think of. I would greatly appreciate it. I am glad thigns are going so well with Evelyn.

I couldn't post on Friday either. Finally I resorted to posting via e-mail, which worked but the formatting was all screwy. Then it wouldn't let me edit until Saturday to make it look like I wanted it to. Stupid. And I couldn't leave comments in some people's journals either. Bah. Please repost the bath story!

Posting by email.. good idea! And now when I tried to go figure out how to post by email, I see that it gives that as a suggestion on getting around the problem. I wondered about your formatting the other day.. I guess that's what happened! I just emailed the post and it looks like it worked. You're so smart. :) (By the way, I wouldn't have paid attention to this note in the instructions if not for this comment, but apparently the formatting issue won't happen if you send the email as plain text.)

I might have to try it again as I'm hitting the same problem. Grrr.
