big girl baths, family pictures and church
Jul. 7th, 2007 10:43 pmEvelyn had her first big-girl bath with Mommy tonight. She loved it! At least, we're pretty sure she loved it. She hasn't quite worked out the whole multi-tasking thing, so it's very difficult for her to smile while she's doing something else, but she managed a few smiles and she kept moving her arms around like she wanted to swim. Babies float! It was so sweet to see her body floating around (her neck supported by my hand, of course) and her arms stretched out over her head. We definitely have a water baby.
Today has been a pretty quiet day--nice and relaxing. This entire lovely week has been quiet and relaxing, really. The three of us went out in the yard today and took a family picture. I believe the set we took was the first one of all of us since we were in the hospital, and that one was not exactly good. M and I look like we've been dead for three days, and Evelyn is looking tiny, red and squooshed (though she really isn't.) Don't look at that one, actually, now that I think about it.

We've been working on a giant frame with a lot of pictures for our bedroom, and we were in need of a 8x10 for the center. I believe we're going with the one above, although this one and this one are also pretty good. I added other pictures to her July folder, by the way, including baby in a baseball cap and Nikes, a Minnie Mouse dress, and her stretched out in the laundry basket. Both she and her daddy looked at me like I was on crack when I took that one. I am doing pretty well on keeping the gallery updated. I don't know how often M's family checks it, but I'd like them to be able to see new pictures when they want to, and it's easier to do them a few at a time than fifty all at once, I've found. Anyway. The little yellow outfit is the one that M bought her before she was born when I wasn't along to stop him. (I tried to resist buying clothes since she already had so many waiting on her.) It's the first time she's worn it and the pants are too tight on her--next time she wears it, I'll have to keep her in icky disposables for it to fit. They grow so very, very fast.
On Sunday, we took the baby to church with my parents for the first time. That was not much of a success, since she started with the crying and I had to go do my very first public restroom breastfeeding episode. I didn't much care for it, fyi. By the time she was fed and changed again, the service was nearly over. It's too bad, though, because I missed most of the singing. The singing is my favorite part. I would like to go to church more often. We really need to find a church here that we can go to, because we would need to leave the house at 8:30 to make it to church with my parents, and that is just not going to happen that much. I have a few philosophical differences with their church anyway, I think. M has expressed his desire to have her christened. There is a Lutheran church here--across the street from my job, actually. Christening is just not something that we do in my family, so I don't even know where to start on that. I'm not opposed to it--I figure it can't hurt. His parents have expressed an interest in us having it while they're here in September. No clue on how to pull that one together.
