This has really been a crappy week. Guess what happened yesterday! My cousin Brad fell off a roof! A thirty foot roof! He was working on top of the roof, putting air conditioners in, from what I understand, and then he stepped in the wrong spot and fell through one of the holes. He is at UK now, and damned lucky to be alive and with as (relatively) few injuries as he has. His right hip was dislocated, his left leg is broken to bits and he had to have surgery on it last night. His nose is broken.. the back part of the funnel-type bone that holds his eye in place broke off. That's the extent of his main injuries. He's in a lot of pain, obviously, but there were no internal injuries at least, and he should be okay in the end. He's twenty years old and came so, so close to dying yesterday. His boss told my mom that he was lucky because "most" people who fall from thirty feet don't survive at all. Of course, the cynic in me is wondering what kind of operation they're running whereby he knows the statistics on how many people live from a fall like that, but I think maybe I would just like someone to be angry with. :) I didn't go to the hospital yesterday because I had the baby by myself and I do not want to have her in an emergency room waiting area if I can help it at all. We're going to stop by today to see him but I can't stay long because of the baby. Babies make things very complicated, did you know that?
The weird thing is that when he got this job, we laughed because his mom was worried about him getting sunburnt from working in the sun all the time, and getting freckles. We said, oh, she's worried about his freckles but not that he'll fall off the roof! haha! Except, it's not quite as funny now as it was then. I can't believe we actually said that and then it happened. Stuff like that never actually happens (thank God) but it sure did this time.
