I couldn't hold it back any longer. I'm such a follower. I've completed my first large batch of magnets, as mentioned by [livejournal.com profile] blue_eyed_girl and emphasized by [livejournal.com profile] carrieb. I had to improvise a little.. I couldn't find the right size marbles. These are a little smaller, though that just makes them cuter.. I'm adaptable. My magnets are also a little thicker than I would have liked, but can't complain too much, really, since I did find stuff that would work at WalMart, first run. :) I went through a copy of Woman's Day or similar that's been laying around the house since Easter of 2001 or so (yes, it was an impulse buy while standing in line.) It had LOTS of pictures of flowers, though, so it was perfect for this. :)

The large group is all floral-related and I could have made more. The smaller group is just random stuff. I liked how the flag turned out, the tomato worked very well, the chicken made me laugh and the eye creepily follows you when you move. There was a swirl, too, but I ran out of magnets.. I only bought thirty. I did have a lot of fun with it, though.. it was relaxing. I think I was a little less exact than she was, as well. I used super glue, attached the stone to the picture and then used snippy scissors to cut around the stone to make a circle.. hence the lines aren't quite exact. Looks perfect from the front, though, so why would I worry about that?

I think the next time I do this, I'll play with printing stuff I have laying around. It may be a little challenging since they're so small, though. I have a lot of Altoid-type tins awaiting a new use.. I guess they'll all get decorated sooner or later for this. People give me Altoid tins all the time because I carry my tatting in one. :) Fun fun! Since they're so small, though, I'll probably have to put

Oh, and one more thing I thought was funny. As we were leaving the grocery store, I noticed and pointed out that there's now a Curves in the shopping center. M's tongue got a little ahead of his brain and he said, "That's where paradise cowgirls go." *laugh* Cute!

Yep, but I bought mine at WalMart. I don't know if WalMart exists there.. large chain department store? Anyway.. they're typically with the dried flowers and vases and stuff.. that's what they're meant for. :) Of course, the important thing is that they have a flat back! It's quite the easy project, too. I did all these in an hour and a half or so.

I had no idea that there are many paradise-type cowgirls running loose out there, but I guess I've just never been inside a Curves! :)

I love your magnets! I saw some on reebert's fridge and have meant to make some ever since, but I haven't. Too many projects, too little time! :) Yours are great -- thanks for sharing!!

Thanks! I'm beginning to feel that way, too, about there being so many projects. I was relatively uncrafty until the last couple of years, and suddenly the addiction is getting worse and worse.. ;)

I have the little marbles too and I kind of prefer them now. :) Yours look really good! I like the flag and the tomato best. It makes me laugh that you involved produce in your crafting. hehehe

Thanks! I'm not sure, but i might prefer these too. They're so.. rounded. The tomato, for example, looks a lot better irl because it makes everything pop out in a 3D sort of way. I was a little amused myself at the produce connection.. hehe.

Those turned out really good! I'm glad I helped inspire you. Last night I used the heart glass things I bought to make a few and they turned out great, but when I put them on the fridge this morning they slid off! I guess bigger magnents are on my list of Things to Buy in Stockholm as well.

These poor little things don't have that problem, at least.. these magnets are almost as thick as the glass and were kind of pesky to keep apart when I was glueing. ;) They look like little mushrooms. Oh, well. I'm having fun, that's all that counts!

How, exactly, did you make these? I even read over the other pages you mentioned, and there were no real explanations... They are trés chic and my roommate is mad for new craft projects...

Did you see this link?
http://quidnunc.org/marbles.html

I personally just used that for inspiration.. I lost interest in cutting little white discs and all that. I took the little marble things and went through a magazine looking for things that would look good in a magnet. I tore those out. Then I spread a little super glue on the back of the marble and placed it down on the paper in the right spot. I used smallish scissors to cut the excess off.. doesn't really need to be perfect as long as you can't see it from the front. Then I just put more super glue on the magnet and stuck it to the back. They're super-quick and super-easy. Also, cheap, which means they're going to make some fabulous gifts. ;) Just don't glue yourself to anything. :)
