Look! A pretty!

M finishes his third mandolin. It's blue!

M finished his third mandolin. It's blue! And pretty! Also, he is dusty. This is what he usually looks like when he comes back from the basement because he does have an inappropriate love of the power tools. I snapped the picture and then, when we looked at them, I asked if I could post it. "Sure," he said, "if you remove my underwear." And I giggled evilly because hello, I would LOVE to remove his underwear! But I had this feeling that my idea of underwear removal is NOT what he had in mind, so I cropped the picture instead. Sorry, folks. But never mind all that, look at his mandolin! He built that with his own two hands! From like, wood and stuff! And you can MAKE NOISE WITH IT. A lot of noise, actually. I am married to a very talented kind of guy. He is my very own personal alien luthier! I guess I can't call him an alien anymore since he is a citizen and all. I can still call him a luthier, though. And if you don't know that word, a luthier is someone who makes stringed instruments.

We just got back this evening from a couple of days spent with my parents. First, yesterday, there was a birthday party for Elizabeth, my cousin's little girl. Elizabeth, by the way, is basically the sweetest kid, ever. She turns two next weekend but her mother scheduled her party specifically so that we could come. We miss all of the birthday parties now so it was very sweet of her. Of course, birthday parties were never my favorite but that's not the point. So, yes. Here are a few birthday pictures, including one of my manly husband playing Barbie with her. He was laughing at her because the limbs of the dolls would come off and she would say "Houwrt!" and then thrust it at M to put back together. Hurt, indeed, munchkin. He wasn't laughing quite so much today when she finally tried to say his name and it came out as "Assnus" but you can't have everything.

[originally there was an animated set of images here, but it was corrupted accidentally, sorry]

That's my mom in the picture with the Barney cake. The black outfit was one of her gifts--note the purse. So, so cute.

We spent the night with my parents last night because they were having a cook-out today, and my boy is a sucker for barbecued ribs, which is what my dad was cooking. M is a big fan of meat in general. I have been surprised to find out this summer that I like ribs, too. I do not, however, like the babyback ribs that one buys in restaraunts. These are.. different, and I don't really know what they're called. Country style? Whatever, they are delicious, and they were falling apart because they were so tender. Yum.

Nice weekend! Too bad that M has to go back to work tomorrow--I at least have one more glorious day of freedom, and it could not have come at a better time. He is taking advantage of his last hours of holiday weekend to have popcorn and ice cream for dinner, so it seems that he's not hurting too much..
