Things I am not going to blog about include how if you use the correct member number on your bank's website, you are better able to log in. Yay smarts!

Evelyn got herself two more ponies courtesy of Daddy tonight. She has really started mastering her walker today. She can zoom around wherever the heck she wants, pretty much. This is nervewracking because actually, our kitchen is full of The Danger, and I have spent most of the time she's been in the thing today chasing after her to make sure she does not get into too much trouble. This morning she zoomed off quicker than I had ever seen her go, heading for the pantry--I had left the door open. She was straining to get to all the pretty boxes like it was the promised land. Anyway, when M came home today, she happened to be sitting in there. I said, "hey, look who's here! Do you want to go see Daddy?" and M started calling for her from the front door. She backed herself up, turned herself around and went a'running to Daddy. It was so completely deliberate--she even got stuck a time or two on an awkward angle, and corrected for it. Our little baby is mobile! Sorta! We're thinking of raising the seat so her feet don't touch the ground anymore.. ha!

Oh, by the way, I have finally come to realize that you can never, ever win. Guess what I do wrong, as a parent! I feed her and change her too often! Mom says that I should just wait until she "asks for it" before I try to feed her. I do actually feed her (and yes, change her) a lot. Typically, she eats every hour and a half to two hours. She's a pretty spit-up-y baby, and she will spit up more when it's time for her to eat. I find it nicer to avoid that if possible. She started eating that often when she started sleeping through the night. I would MUCH rather feed her all day long than need to get up with her in the middle of the night. Besides that, I really don't mind it--she eats very very quickly and it's not like I'm not at home with her anyway, and it's a nice break from entertaining her. Mom says that she was really worried for a while that she was so fat one day that she couldn't breathe well. I think I remember the night she's talking about, and I think that she was wearing pants that were too small for her. I figure that if I WAS feeding her too often, the pediatrician would ask me about her weight with concern. She's as tall as she is 'fat', though, so I'm thinking she's exactly the perfect size for her. As for changing her too often--well, I do probably change her twice as often as some other parents would, but I don't see a particular problem with it. I went through fifteen diapers today, if I counted correctly. That's a lot! Of course, I'm not paying thirty cents a piece for them.. with cloth, it's all but free (minimal costs on the laundry detergent, electricity and water.) She just really HATES having a wet diaper. She hates it in trashies and she hates it in cloth. Besides all that, I have philosophical problems with letting my kid sit around in a pool of bodily waste. It's just that these are things I associate with being a GOOD parent, so clearly, you just can't make anyone happy.

ARGH!!! Nothing makes me angrier than someone telling me what I'm doing wrong with Erik or what I should be doing with him, so I'm angry on your behalf! Every child is so different and has different needs. You know Eveyln best and it is your job to take care of her needs! I want to whap your mom on the head for giving you grief. She is a fat baby, but babies are supposed to be fat! That means they are getting what they need! Skinny babies are cause for concern. Besides, a baby won't eat if she isn't hungry. You simply can't overfeed a baby. I know you know all this. I'm just ranting at your mom *l*. And of course you change her often! With cloth diapers she can feel every little pee squirt.

The nice thing about her being YOUR child is, you're never wrong. You should do what I do, politely smile and then still do whatever you want. My mom did try once or twice to say something, but I gave her a gentle verbal smackdown. :-) Those grandmas can get uppity sometimes.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with changing and feeding your baby as often as you feel it's necessary. I very much agree with your strategy on feeding more often to avoid more spit up (I did that with a baby I babysat for a while, it worked much better, as did the frequent diaper changes).

My thought is, I'd rather see something like that overdone than underdone...and yeah, as long as she's a good weight for her age, etc then I say do what works and heck, you get sleep as a bonus? I say hand her to whoever complains and let them clean up spitup all day and wake randomly through the night ;)
