Mommy Geekdom Moment
I can't stop myself from writing about this. Evelyn peed in the potty TWICE today. TWICE. Two times! The first time, she actually told me "potty" first. The second time, I took her just because it was time for a diaper change and she went. She had the one poo incident in the big potty a few weeks ago but it actually seems like she's kind of interested in potty-training. I am not holding my breath, though--she will probably not do it again until she's four if I get too excited about it. But still!
Sleep
We have been tinkering around a little bit with her sleep since the last post, and we have talked a lot about LJ's words of wisdom and commiseration. I turned the music off for a few nights--really didn't make much of a difference but I think it might help more than hinder. I moved her nap to 1-3 a couple of days, and we woke her up then. She still fought me in the evening. We tried putting her to bed earlier and that ALMOST worked, to our surprise, but her will was too strong. Last night, I decided to try her again on the previous schedule of an 11:00 nap and then to bed at her normal time of eightish, and to accomplish that, I was going to wake her up at eight. (She was sleeping until nine lately, which made it impossible for her to take an eleven o'clock nap.) She obliged by waking up on her own ten minutes before I wanted her to. By ten, she was laying in her bedroom floor, playing with a hanger. She napped appropriately and then went to bed without a fight. Still took a while, but I honestly don't mind that part too much if she isn't arching and screaming and fighting. So, I think that if it holds, this really is the sleeping schedule she wants. She went off of it just before the Possum family came to visit, which coincided with some weird night wakings, and then she was sick. If she sticks with it, then I am tentatively happy with the state of sleeping chez Yayer.
Anyway, in the course of all this thinking and discussing about her nap time, I have also decided that there are several different issues at work. One of them is the nursing to sleep, one of them is the schedule, one of them is the needs-mommy, one is the difficulty in falling asleep, etc. I think that it makes more sense to try to tackle them individually. We made the schedule and the fighting thing the first priority (for obvious reasons). If we can keep her satisfied with how it goes, then we will maybe tackle the next issue. I am kind of working on the weaning, sorta. I am trying to get her to eat more food and less milk--I had made more progress before her vaccinations, though--she was in need of comforting and she increased the nursing again. I have a ways to go before she's ready to skip the night nursing, though. For one thing, I have found that if she doesn't do her typical extended nursing period, I am more likely to be up with her in the middle of the night. So, more foods! Wish she liked more things... that would make it easier. That's just par for the toddler course, though, from what I understand.

Thanksgiving / Black Friday
Clearly, I am insane, because I think I have agreed to go shopping on Friday. Actually, my plan is to pack everything up on Wednesday night and be up and ready to leave very early on Thursday so I can stop at a couple of stores on my way up to do the family thing. Then, we'll spend the night with my parents and M will commute from there (it's an hour and a half drive) to work while I am up at four in order to be at Walmart at the buttcrack of dawn, and then run all over town with pretty much my entire extended family, AND dragging my eighteen-month-old. Fun times! Heck, I don't even know if there's anything all that special I am dying to buy on Friday. Everyone is looking forward to it, though. I didn't go last year, but Black Friday in 2006 was exhausting. I was pregnant at the time, though, so daily life was also exhausting. :)
Conclusion
I am no better at conclusions than I ever was. After almost seven years of this journal, though, I imagine you've come to accept that.

Date: 2008-11-25 03:39 am (UTC)Are you waking her up at 4 to go shopping on Friday or is someone staying with her for awhile? I can not imagine doing black friday shopping, much less with a toddler in tow. I would probably die. Because my head would pop off.
