Excellent Fun Day
Apr. 4th, 2009 09:14 pmToday was so much fun! We haven't had a whole lot of quality time together lately, so we decided that today was going to be a Fun Day. Here's why:
- Evelyn woke up at 7:30 but fell asleep again and snoozed until almost 9:00 with M, while I got up and was able to read my internet things in peace and blessed quiet. We all win.
- Then we got ready to leave, and we stopped at the bank to put the money through the coin counting machine, per Evelyn's request. I have been telling her about taking her piggybank money to the bank to put into her bank account and she got really excited about it and has been asking for "bank bank bank!" ever since. I was surprised that she was so excited about it--I would have thought she would be pissy about the money not being in the piggy anymore. Also, I told her that she could use it to pay for college ("school") later and she got really excited about that, too, and said she wanted "mommy school". I told her she would have to talk to her daddy about that because I didn't think he'd go for homeschooling but she could check. hehe.
- Shopping! We went to a whole bunch of places and Evelyn was so so so good the entire day. M got a pair of pants, Evie got a bathing suit and some pajamas. There were also some books purchased and a pile of stuff to finish up the munchkin's Easter basket. The Target $1 section had a heap of Sesame Street stuff and E is all about Sesame Street. She has an amazingly one-track mind. She got into Elmo a year ago or more and it just hasn't left.
- Successful return at Target of Evelyn's bear backpack thing that broke the third time we used it. I was concerned because there was no box or anything, but it worked just fine. Evie cried because she saw me give it to the lady at the return counter. We bought her another one and let her pick between the bear she had, or a monkey or two dogs. She picked the bear. That pleased her parents because she is showing every indication of being as sentimental as we are. She wanted it because it's the one she had before.
- Sub-point: I am waiting eagerly for someone to stop me and tell me how terrible it is that I put my kid on a leash. It's only a matter of time because people are stupid and cannot keep their mouths shut. I guess in theory, it sounds bad, but I honestly have no clue why it would be any worse than strapping one down in a stroller or wearing a baby in a carrier except this actually allows your kid to have some independence and get a little exercise. In the end, I really don't care what anyone thinks as long as I don't lose her in a crowd.
- I had two 50% off coupons at Old Navy. That was fun--yay coupons! No more prints available or I'd link to it for you.
- We let Evie play on the oversized toy structure things in the middle of the mall. She thought it was grand. There were a million kids playing, and I couldn't help but notice that E was the only one whose parents hovered right over her the whole time, but she is smaller than most of them and unused to playing with other kids and also, that's just who we are, I guess. She had a lot of fun but amazingly, after I caught her and wrestled her back into her shoes, she did not argue about leaving.
- Pizza for dinner! No cooking required!
- Impromptu solo trip to Walgreens to use a couple of coupons I got in the mail from eBay. I cannot even begin to express how much I love going shopping upon occasion without a small person. Glorious freedom!
- Exhausted child fell asleep in record time and I now have the rest of the night to do whatever I want!
- Heading off right now to watch a movie with the husband, and converse about what a great day it's been.

Date: 2009-04-05 05:08 am (UTC)1. See, she might have a hard time going down but she *stays* asleep. Sophie? Up every morning come hell or high water at 6:30 am. 7 am if she sleeps in.
2. That's so cute! I really need to get Sophie a piggy bank. Of course she'd want to spend all of her $$ on push-ups so I'm not sure how effectual it'd be. lol
3. I was thinking I needed you to find me some "free" coupon razors. You're so good at getting a deal when you shop!
4. LOL - I always wanted to put my kid on a leash but I never had the nerve. Maybe I should just say forget it and strap her up!
5. *Loves* Old Navy... and 50% off of their already low prices? How awesome is that? Hope you got something great!
6. Once she's a little bigger you'll hover less. Right now, do what works for your family.
7. I miss the convenience of 911-Pizza. Yay for not having to cook!
8. That's such a nice treat to actually get to browse again. I love the occasional solo trip too. =)
9. Maybe she's growing out of her difficulty in falling asleep? Or maybe it was such a hectic day that ya just done wore her out!
10. Night!

Date: 2009-04-05 05:57 pm (UTC)Evelyn loves her bear backpack and it's not very obtrusive as a leash. She doesn't necessarily like being restrained but she's still at that very unpredictable stage. I think she'll grow out of that, probably in her thirties sometime. :) Yesterday, we were having a little trouble with her suddenly sitting down while wearing it, though, which I don't think older kids do as much. I don't know. It helps that I have no problems with the concept. I mean, I do see what people are getting at but I fail to see the problem with it. Everyone has to get their panties in a wad over something, I guess. ;)
Sadly, she woke up in the middle of the night. So much for bragging on her sleeping so easily!

Date: 2009-04-06 03:36 am (UTC)Once you have a kid I don't think you see a problem with it at all! LOL...
Sophie tried to dart head first into the Pacific Ocean today - I would've loved a leash at that point. I can't remember the last time I ran that fast!
Oh sorry she didn't sleep all the way through. =(
Someday she will! (I hope)
