I've been pretty productive today but I suspect it's not going to sound like much when I start writing about it. :)

First, as a followup to the previous entry.. apparently Magnus calmed down after I was called, so he only came home with a stack of computer junk and three bicycles. He was particularly happy with the bikes, as he purchased them all for $1. They need work, but will probably be usable eventually. Dad had to outdo him and bought five bikes for $1. You know you've gotten a bargain when you buy a bicycle for twenty cents, it doesn't matter what condition it's in! As for the computer stuff.. as weird as it is, we haven't actually checked any of it out yet. He bought a shelf's worth for $15. It had two monitors, one of which is a 17 inch, the other a 15. There was an old, junky and almost certainly broken Mac laser printer which got unloaded promptly and tossed onto a pile of snow-covered trash. There's one printer that looks quite promising and another that looks decent, an old desktop computer missing a hard drive (apparently that's how UK handles computer sales.) and an external CDrom that may or may not be of use to us. My dad has called three times to ask if we've checked any of it out, but we just haven't gotten around to it yet. They had a lot of fun, though, and I think that's pretty cute. I'm glad my husband has such a good relationship with his inlaws. :)

As for me, it seems that I can't get any work done when Magnus is home all day, so I spent the day getting caught up on a bunch of things. I made Whitley a tatting-decorated Valentine's Day card and I'm going to put it in the mail tomorrow. I remember how much I loved getting mail when I was seven. Heck, I still love getting mail! :) I fixed all five of the thread exchange envelopes to send out tomorrow and did a pile of laundry, too, and a hundred little things I can't think of anymore.

We also did a real life kind of thing tonight.. we went to a sporting event. Now, keep in mind that I was a student for four years at Morehead State and never once attended any sort of athletic event, but tonight we went to a basketball game against Tennessee Tech. (We won. YAY!!) This actually turned out to be pretty exciting and we had a lot of fun. MSU's team really typically sucks, but this year they're in the lead of their .. district or class or whatever. I'm REALLY not into the specifics of this.. I'm not even sure of the specifics of game play. *grin* They were losing during the middle of the game.. down 17 points. Then the audience started cheering them wildly at every little thing, and they started playing like they'd been possessed by the spirit of Michael Jordan or something and ended up winning by nine points. It was pretty cool. It's sad that as an adult, there are so few accepted times to scream at the top of your lungs in that manner.

I felt sorry for the other team's cheerleaders, though. MSU consistently wins cheerleading competitions.. they're really quite good. The other team took up three rows of bleachers on one end of the court and did some sort of synchronized dancing, occasionally venturing onto the court to dance and toss their hair around. Meanwhile, MSU's cheerleaders--at least half of which are male--spent most of the time on the actual sidelines (ie not in the stands) throwing each other around and doing backwards somersaults and standing on top of the guys. By the end of the game, the poor Tenn Tech girls were barely even clapping, they were so depressed. *giggle* Magnus kept saying, "I wish they wouldn't do that!!" when they'd do something particularly dangerous looking. It was really cute. What was not cute was the woman behind us, who kept shouting "GO MOREHAIIID!" I could leave with the shouting, but she said Morehead in such a dumb manner that it really made me want to turn around and attack her with my green plastic shuttle. (Yes, indeed, but I took my tatting with me. Hehehe.)

Oh my goodness. I can't believe I rambled for so long about a sport. It's just that it's truly a unique thing for us to do, going to a game. Since it was fun, though, we might go more often. Or more likely, we'll just sit home and talk about going more often.

Hello, I just added you to my friends list -- I'm about to marry my own Swede this summer :)

Live sporting events a couple of times a year can be fun :) We do hockey once or twice a season and most recently went to an NBA game (not cheap). But mostly, we're homebodies and it takes a real effort on our part to get out and about... :)

How do you guys do it? (Have your Swedes move over to the US?) My Magnus works for GE Medical Systems (based in Milwaukee, WI) but will not consider transferring there and moving to the US! :oI

I'm not sure how I got my Magnus to move here exactly. We never seriously considered living in Sweden, really, since I was in college at the time, and he'd briefly considered moving abroad before anyway. Sometimes I wish we could, actually, but I'm realistic enough to know that I wouldn't want to stay too long! ;)

Well, after one year of back and forth, growing phone bills and many many hours online, I told my darling Swede that he could either move here or I would be moving there. I think he was much more comfortable with the idea of him moving here (he's fluent in English) as long we could find him a job which, thankfully, we did.

I actually recall that at one point during our year apart he said that he always thought that working in the US would be cool so him moving here to be with me would be like killing two birds with one stone. He, of crouse being the absent-minded one, doesn't recall saying any such thing. Too bad I don't still have the IRC log from THAT little chat ;-)

I actually think I would/will do well in Sweden: I've traveled a lot, I liked much of what I read about Swedish culture long before I met Peter, and I don't have a lot of strong ties in the US. After having been there for more than a total of two months during my many visits, I'm pretty sure I'd adjust fairly well. That is not to say that I'm blind to the differences between the US and Sweden, far from it. It's just that I'm pretty adaptable, actually enjoy learning different cultures, and would be going in with my eyes open :)

As it is, I'm hoping to begin a three-year grad program (part-time, distance) in library and information science this fall and he's very happy with his job (web application developer) so while we talk about moving to Sweden (which I actually want to do), it's not in our near future.

Congratulations! Marrying my Swede was the best thing I ever did. And I've added you back. :)

I think we might go to more games now, but I suppose it won't be a major hobby. We like staying home too much. :) I might enjoy an occasional hockey game, as well, but football and soccer and baseball are completely out of my comprehension. ;)
