Happy Mother's Day to all of you with kids. :) I asked Magnus where my Mother's Day present was. He reminded me that I'm not a mother. I pointed out that I'm the mother of his future children. He graciously agreed to give me a future present. *giggle*

My dad called this morning to ask if we'd mind working at the store for a few hours so he could go to church and take Mom to lunch. I agreed, so we worked from 10:30 to 2:30. Or, I worked, Magnus walked around and looked bored. I told him he didn't have to stay, but he wanted to be with me, so he kept me company. :) I have to work Wednesday instead of Monday this week, btw. Tonight, I'm rather glad, though I might not agree on Tuesday night. :) I hope I'm not sore after Tuesday's appointment, though.

I got very stressed out, though. A lady came in and asked if we had any fruit baskets. I said that I could make her one, and went to round up the supplies and fruit. I had no idea what to price them at, though, so I tried to call Dad and there was no answer. I got the basket all done, and rang her up. She paid with a credit card. This is where my trouble began. It started with one mistake and went to hell in a handbasket from there. You see, I charged the poor woman a little too much--by like $100. My finger slipped, I guess, and I caught it as it was accepting the payment. I was horrified, but thought, "okay, giving a refund should be pretty easy." Halfway through the process, the machine runs out of paper. I can't find more, so I try to use a roll from the cash register. Couldn't get the outside paper off. Finally cut it off. Learn how to put paper in machine. People are accumulating behind the woman. She suggests that I ring up the people behind her. Excellent idea. They're buying a watermelon. I enter it into the register (amid some fumblings with getting rid of the other woman's transaction). Then the woman asks if we accept EBT (foodstamp card). Sure we do. On the machine that doesn't work. I run it through the machine and it gives an error, so I enter the number by hand. It tells me there is no card on file. I'm freaking out. Can't get a hold of the parents on the phone. Magnus has no clue how any of it works, so he can't do much. After an eternity, the parents pull in, and Dad fixes the paper issue and unplugs the machine, and it all works. The fruit-basket woman gives us a check and leaves, probably annoyed but nice about it. The toothless guy buying two oranges hangs around even after I take his money, watching the proceedings. I was a nervous wreck until well after we left. But I'm okay now that there's been a few hours of distance from the incident.

We were productive and busy all day, and then I made a very good dinner. Recipe. We had to make a few alterations.. I used Parrmesan and Gruyere instead of Monterey Jack, and the pepper situation was a little bit altered. It turned out good, but not spicy enough. Relatively easy, although there was a lot of chopping involved. To tell the truth, though, I like chopping stuff. Except chicken. I hate playing with dead chickens. Not too thrilled about playing with live ones, either, to tell the truth.

You don't like playing with live chickens? *LOL* Ah, trust me, I can relate somewhat to your experience w/ the lady and the credit card. I used to work at my mom's office supply shop and I ran into that same problem. Overcharged someone. Couldn't seem to fix it. Got more flustered with each passing moment waiting for my mother to show back up and save my butt. People lining up behind the woman. Yep. Been there, done that, hope I never go back! :P *huggles*

Well, I theoretically don't like playing with live chickens. I've never actually tried it, but I can't imagine it being very fun. :)

What a nightmare. I hate it when stuff like that happens. I'm with you, I get all flustered and then have more and more trouble just trying to think straight. *L*

Yep, it really was awful. Everyone was nice about it (I think they would have felt like they were kicking me when I was already down, as I kept apologizing profusely) so at least it wasn't as bad as it could have been. ;)
