I've been easily carsick lately. We just got home from Lexington and I'm still feeling queasy, which is absolutely ridiculous because it's an hour on the interstate and I was asleep for the last twenty minutes.. but now that I'm sitting still, I feel a little icky. I don't know if that's technically carsickness, but you know what I mean.
We had a nice day. We did a bit of shopping in the afternoon and then went to a midsommar picnic hosted by the Scandinavian Heritage Association in Lexington. We had a surprisingly good time. There were maybe fifteen or twenty people there, and everyone went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The average age was probably 60, except for us and one other girl who also came for the first time today.. she was approximately our age. There were three actual Swedes, counting Magnus, and one Norwegian.. the rest seemed to be spouses and descendants of Swedes. It was very Swedish-focused. I was rather nervous about the whole affair, but it turned out to be very pleasant. The weather was perfect, and everyone seemed very pleased to meet us, talk to a real Swede, and see some young people involved. I might write more about it later, and I might even post a picture of me with the wreath I made.. depending on how it turned out. ;)
Also of note.. we had FOUR messages on the machine tonight when we got home. *gasp* No one ever leaves us messages.. mainly because no one but my parents ever call, and they don't do messages. Except for Dad, who once talked for five or six minutes. *laugh* Seems like I had some other stuff to ramble about, but I'm still not feeling any better and I believe I'd rather head to bed than worry about it. I'll try to get caught up on commenting and stuff tomorrow, if I have time. I'm still reading, at least. I tried to say stuff to people last night, but didn't get too far before the connection went out again. Bastards. With our internet connection the way it is and working full-time, I've been reading again more than being online. I suppose that books are still my first love.. it relaxes me more than anything else. Anyway. Night night.

Date: 2003-06-22 01:51 pm (UTC)I don't know if I should comment on what that could say about his driving.. he might get mad. Although I really haven't noticed much fo a difference in how sick I get related to who's driving. Except.. When I mention that I'm carsick, Magnus starts driving differently and makes a point to slow down some, ease on the brakes and gas, and handle the whole car more smoothly. Maybe my parents were just mean and sadistic, but I really had no idea that would make it easier. But it really does help.. especially if I feel pre-sick or more prone to car sickness than normal and he can start before I'm truly feeling ill. This feels extremely incoherent and rambly, but I guess I'm talking to someone who can appreciate it, at least. ;)

Date: 2003-06-23 07:04 pm (UTC)I'm sorry to hear about your car sickness. It looks like you had a great time at the midsommarfest. :) Unfortunately, due to other commitments,
paradisecowgirl and I missed the one in Portland that was held on June 15.
