I know that at least a couple of you have been to chiropractors in the past. I was a little curious as to how often you visited them and for how long? I'm beginning to consider not going any longer. I've been to about a dozen visits in the last two months, and the original problem is mostly gone. I say mostly because the only problem I'm having now is muscle weakness in that shoulder, which is my own fault for not doing my exercises properly. Magnus had a dramatic improvement.. he's free of backpain for the first time in seventeen years or so, and that just after a couple of visits. He just moved to going every other week, but I'm still at once a week with absolutely no indication that it's ever going to reduce. Frankly, I'm getting bored with it, and I might have given it up completely if it hadn't been for Vicky. She's the massage therapist, and I do believe she's gradually helping my arms. (They're always very sore, have been for years.) He said in the beginning that I could go to every other week once I'd been painfree for a month, but every third week or so he does something incredibly painful and says something like, "This will hurt, you might want to ice the area when you get home." And furthermore, he's doing things that I don't really think are helping. He seems fixated on my back pain, for one thing.. which is interesting since I don't have back pain and the only time I've ever really had a problem with back pain was when he adjusted my back the first three visits. And suddenly, he's talking about my shoulder pain being related to my collarbone problem.. but that wasn't even mentioned for the first six visits..at that time he said it was all about my neck. So I'm beginning to think that the only way out of this once-a-week cycle is to either lie to him or just stop going. And the only problem Magnus has now is his sore neck, which he gets from having his neck adjusted. Ahem.

As I told him at our first or second visit, the idea makes sense to me. I don't see how we can operate properly if our bones are in the wrong places. But this is all starting to become more illogical than logical, and so I'm trying to decide if I want to keep going (paying $15 per visit) or just stop altogether. Not that I'm asking for medical advice.. just wondering how long the average person keeps at this.

Well, I have a lot of back pain and neck pain from my fall. I've gone to chiropractors prior to my fall but just for check-ups. I would go about 3-4 times a year to get adjusted. After I fell I went 3x a week for about 2 months and then it tapered off from there. Now I go about every month and a half to two months. If I go longer than that the pain gets to be too much and I can't do anything. On a side note, I'm shocked that you only pay 15 dollars per visit! In Oregon I paid 36 dollars per visit and here I pay 300kr each visit. Ugh. That 3x a week stint almost broke us. :/

Well, $15 is the co-pay. We have no idea how much they're charging the insurance company.

You know, I'd really like to know what they're charging them. I can't see how they could avoid telling us, do you? I wonder if they're getting any monetary feedback from the insurance company at all, actually. We certainly haven't heard from them about it like we did with the other company, asking for more information all the time.

I suspect we could get out of paying the $15, too. They're horribly unorganized. It drives me batty because I have this crazy expectation that the office staff would, for instance, be able to tell me at any given time how much we owe them, but no, they sort of work on the honor system and we can just pay as we're able. Sounds good in theory, but it bugs me to feel like I owe someone something.

Hmm.. well, obviously, you were going much more than I have been, but I wasn't in *nearly* as much pain as you. (Sounds like I have a reebert-pain-monitoring system, doesn't it? I just wasn't horribly pained, just irritated, that's what I meant.) That's why I'm beginning to question the validity of these visits. Thanks for your answer!

I actually used to go a lot before ( especially as a kid ), and still go every once in a while to get a small checkup or something.

I heard some horror stories about them, though. I think that as it is a very precise discipline, when you actually get a bad chiropractor, it shows a lot. And then word spreads.

I never heard but good stuff from the one I visit, though. Perhaps you should try changing doctor ?

*nods* I really have heard nothing but good things about this one, and that's why I picked him. And he did fix me.. I'm just beginning to worry that it's continuing for too long. I might try to discuss this at the next visit.

Well .... I find that everything just collapses and I'm in serious strife and so I go and have to go once a week say for five weeks and then I can drop back to once a month perhaps and then I have to keep doing exercises too and then I'll drop off the visits because I'm broke and I feel fine and then it might hurt a bit and I don't go and then it'll keep happening and I'll have stopped the exercises and then it just collapses again say a year later and I have to go through the process all again yet I know that if I'd kept going once every six weeks forever for example I wouldn't have fallen in a whole again nor would I write sentences as long as this..... *L*

I'm impressed! That's a 97 word sentence! You're worse than I am!

Well, I don't think anyone who goes around counting the words in someone else's sentences can really claim anyone is worse off than they are.. *tease*

You're blaming your grammar skills on your chiropractor now?! *cackles evilly*

I guess I'm just bored with going every week. Maybe I'll discreetly bring the topic up with him next week. Bleh. :) Thanks!
