Tuesday afternoon
Apr. 16th, 2002 04:57 pmI've been productive and stressed today. The good news? I found tickets to Newark for $151 each. The bad news? Well, a little more complicated.
First, I was stressing over which return flight I should pick. We're supposed to arrive in Newark at 1:10 pm. There was a flight scheduled at 2:30 or so pm to Cinci. It would have had us in Cinci by 7:18, and then home before 10. Or we could leave at 4:20, and arrive at CVG by 8:40, and no hopes of being home before 11. But! I was afraid that if we were late at all, we might miss it, and that would suck. And, of course, I'm doing all of the booking for this on my own, which compounded anxiety. Anyway, I finally decided that I had to err on the side of caution, and booked the later flight. That was just a minor delay, though. The real problem was when I started filling out the forms to book the ticket.
Nope, the credit card wasn't rejected or anything like that. There was a tip under the first traveler's name that said to make sure that the name matched the passport or ID of the traveler exactly. That's when it occured to me that my passport is in my maiden name. AArgh. So I, leaving the travel window open, proceed to search for information on that, and finally call the post office, cause that's where you apply here. I got transferred to a nice lady who told me about a particular form to be filed, for no charge. Problem, naturally? 5-7 weeks. So that means that I'll have to send that in expedited, which costs $35 + overnight shipping charges. Erk. Okay, that's annoying but I can deal with it. Now, what do I have to send in? This form, alright, I have that printed and filled in, and my current passport, yep, got that, and.. what's this? A certified copy of my marriage certificate to prove that my name changed? AAAargh. You can order certified marriage certificates online, but it costs $6 plus shipping and handling PLUS 5-30+ days of processing time. (Of course, I could always send in the original.. yeah right.) The other (nice, I must say) option is to go to the office during working hours and file a form and wait an hour and take it with you when you leave. Much more in my time frame here. And, the problem? Frankfort. *giggle* Which.. it could be much worse. Frankfort is only half an hour or so on the other side of Lexington, and I was already planning on going there tomorrow. So. Fine. I'll go to Frankfort to pick up this marriage certificate. Then I can file the passport amendment application on Thursday, and it should take two weeks after that to have it processed, which means I should have my passport back by May 3, or 16 days before our expected travel date. All's well that ends well, etc.
There is still the possibility of travelling without changing the name on the passport. It doesn't seem to be technically illegal or anything, but I'm just not sure how well it would work. Perhaps if I'd put the tickets in my maiden name.. I do still have photo ID for that.
On the bright side, I had a very nice e-card from my mother-in-law. :)
Oh!! And Magnus sold his first car! A red convertible! Yay baby! It's all exciting and stuff. :)
AAAAArgh. Now I've found ticketes at $129! I HATE BOOKING TICKETS!
