Back in February, we went to a bluegrass concert at MSU, to see the Bluegrass Strangers and IIIrd Tyme Out. Now, as you might have noticed, I'm not much of a bluegrass fan, in and of itself. I approve of the concept, I adore the festival idea and the whole... Poppy Mountain thing, I just don't really want to participate in it. I don't want to sit in front of a stage and do nothing besides watch some guys sing. I particularly did not want to sit for three hours in an auditorium in cramped, uncomfortable seats and pay for the privilege to do so, but won't we all do ridiculous things for love? Anyway. It was decently entertaining except for the comfort levels, or the lack thereof, but I was, I confess, mostly just bored. Except there was this one song that I really really really liked.. and I didn't even notice til it was half over, so I only heard part of it, but it made me all beamy. Since then, every so often, I've (ahem) searched for the mp3 with kazaa/winmx, but no one ever HAD it. I was beginning to forget what the song sounded like, or even if I really liked it as much as I remembered, but..
Tonight I thought I'd check out what exactly was on the album, so went to Amazon, and.listened to a clip. Then as I was about to close the window, satisfied that indeed, I still liked it, I scrolled down just a little more and saw that there were two songs available for download from the CD--one of which was John and Mary!! So now I have it, after seven months. (I'm refusing to consider the possibility that the "download song" button has always been on that page, as I've been there before and it would be too painful to think of it being there and me not seeing it..)
Download "John and Mary" mp3 from Amazon, buy stuff from IIIrd Tyme Out
Might buy the CD this week. Probably will buy at least one CD, at that, of someone. Like the idea of giving the money directly to the band, and nice when they're sitting there at the booth to talk to. :)
Anyway. That's pretty much what's been going on today--preoccupied with bluegrass or cellphones all day long. I helped Magnus set up the table and work, then we closed up, had leftovers with the parents at the camper and watched the show for a while. The soundguy, for some strange and unknown reason, absolutely refused to fix the treble for one entire band, which meant that the singing was way off balance and majorly hurt my ears, which in turn made my headache worse, but finally they got that fixed. Oh, and the power was off for hours most of the afternoon, which meant no music until they got a generator. (Bad sign when the electric goes off on the first day.. there are often brief outages, but not like this.)
I was greatly amused as they were announcing sponsors later that night. "We'd like to extend our thanks to Handi-Tool and Rental of Morehead..." *rofl* How much you wanna bet that Handi-Tool wasn't a sponsor until frantic people turned up wanting to rent all their generators for the week? *LOL*
