Just a quick note about my husband's language skills.. they're excellent to the point that my family no longer even accepts that English is not his first language. He has a Kentucky accent and never mispronounces a word when speaking with them. They get annoyed at reminders that he's not from here, and they forget that it was only two years ago that he was living on another continent and speaking English only with me. Indeed, I often forget about the language issue, as well, and I'm looking for it.

But.

Picture this. A quiet moment, snuggled up on the couch, watching Good Eats. Commercial break and I'm nearly asleep. He's rambling about the commercials, and someone uses the word "squat". Magnus, for some reason adoring the fact that I'm short and always drawing attention to it, says "Squat! Just like you!" in that cute tone.

Silence. "Ummm.. define squat," I finally say, since as I mentioned before, I tend to look for this sort of thing.

"Short!" he replies innocently, followed by much embarrassed laughter when I giggled and explained that that particular word didn't have the most positive of connotations...

*giggle* Love you, sweetie.. even if you did refer to your wife as "squat".
