Sunday night
Oct. 28th, 2002 12:58 amLuxury for my bug.. I'm writing in both here and the Tatty Blog. :) This morning, we slept til noon and then got up in a rush because we were running late. Checked mail and M asks why his computer clock says 11:21. This was the first we'd heard about Daylight Savings. I've never once before forgotten it, I don't think.
Today turned out suckier than expected. First of all, I've felt fairly hungover all day.. which I'm not. I think I'm getting sick. We were at Papaw's as usual when the aunt called from Ashland (an hour from both where we were and home.). They'd taken my baby cousin Alex (she's five) to the ER earlier in the day because her heart was skipping beats quite a lot and thought it should be checked out. Auntie called to let us know what the doctor had said.. which was essentially that there was indeed something wrong, with no definition on what that would be. My aunt, God love her, has a real flair for making things sound even worse than they are, so we were quite freaked out and worried. We all went to check on her, hence the unexpected bit of the day.
Anyway, they decided not to keep her overnight and instead sent her home with a heart monitor and scheduled her for an appointment in Cincinnati at a children's hospital for either Wednesday or Friday. The doctor on staff was certain that there was nothing immediate to worry about and no reason at all not to send her home. He was also adamant about not producing any sort of diagnosis, since he's not a pediatric cardiologist, and they didn't really have any of those on staff, either. So it's all sucky and worrying, but nothing to report on it quite yet. Cross your fingers and/or say a prayer that she's okay, would ya?
Last night there was a Halloween party at the house of the aunt who can make things sound worse than they are. ;) Magnus and I went as an accident victim (me) and lawyer (him). We made business cards for him, in the name of a cheesy auto injury lawyer constantly running commercials here, and I photoshopped myself a very funny fake xray, with a broken neck and fractured skull. I arrived with a neck bandage, wrist and ankle brace and crutches, and a bandaid on my forehead (and stuck in my cleavage for that sexy victim look.. ha). Magnus wore the purple-grey suit he wore at his high school graduation in '93 and practiced the sleazy smile from his insurance salesman days. ;) Last year, we went as a supergeek (him) and his robot date (me), which involved wearing a couple of cardboard boxes covered in foil. Next year, HE will be the one in a cumbersome outfit! It was quite fun, and we didn't get home until late. Both years, we've had the most original costumes, if I do say so myself. ;)
Anyway, time for bed now. I really am hoping that I don't wake up tomorrow with a full fledged cold, but I'm suspecting that that will be the case. *sigh* It's my own fault, though. I mentioned just a couple of days ago how neat it was that I didn't get sick when Magnus did a few weeks ago. I really am jinxed, I think. :) Like tonight. I finally set the clock in the car (we've had to disconnect the battery a lot because of the transmission thing) and two minutes later, the flashing light came on and the battery had to be disconnected again. This is after weeks of driving it with no trouble. Argh. Oh well. Night night!
