Thursday morning
Nov. 14th, 2002 10:33 amIt's been over a week since I've posted, and unfortunately, I've had a sucky reason. My grandfather went in for a heart cath on Sunday night, had it on Monday, and ended up having open heart surgery on Tuesday morning (I actually got out of bed before three a.m. to be down there in time. Argh.) I've been in Lexington--an hour's drive one way--every single day since Saturday, when Magnus and I went shopping. (In retrospect, not the best day for it.) He ended up having four bypasses, and came through the surgery quite well. My great-aunt had it at about this time last year and had a much worse time than he's having so far. She had a valve replaced/fixed, though, and had congestive heart failure before she went in, so was pretty sick to begin with. Papaw went in a couple of weeks ago because he was short of breath, but it went away and they sent him home and scheduled a lot of tests. He was really dreading the heart cath, because his brother died from it a few years back. After it was over, though, he was relatively accepting about the big surgery. They've removed tubes and stuff today, and he's feeling better than yesterday evening, when he was having stomach pains.
Sooo.. I've thought almost every night that I should write something here, but haven't gotten around to it. As I mentioned, last year at this time, it was my aunt in the hospital. The year before that it was my uncle. Now it's Papaw. I certainly hope this is the last holiday we hang around hospitals and worry about people. Or, better yet, maybe next year, we'll be at the hospital to welcome a new baby. (Not ours, of course.. my cousin and her husband have been trying for a while.)
Slight good news about the week.. finally received our Amazon order. Two new tatting books, two books for Magnus. Oh, and there was a major book sale in Lexington that we went to two days, and bought several really neat books, so we have certainly reading material for a while! We're so sad. Our favorite things consist of books, paper, mandolins and string. :)
Anyway, today I've decided to stay home, I think, unless I change my mind before 1, which is when I can catch a ride to Lexington. I could drive, but it seems silly when there are others going.. and besides, I'd rather not take the Mazda, and Magnus is gone in the Oldsmobile. (Transmission quirkiness.) I have a lot of stuff to do.. the house is torn all to pieces since we haven't been home to do more than we have to, and we're running out of clothes to wear, and other stuff. Which also means that I should get up and get going if I want to get it all done. :)
