Cars and curtains
Jun. 24th, 2004 08:33 pmI told M just now that I kinda need to clean because the house is kind of dirty. M said immediately "is it?" in that questioning, slightly unbelieving tone. I was sitting here thinking, "Is it?" as he said it, simply because I know him so well. He's such a boy. I sometimes wish I had the ability to not notice dirt. It would make things easier.
I had what is probably my best day yet at work today. There was nothing about it that just made it fabulous, but I was able to concentrate a lot better than I have before, and I felt a little less like I didn't know a thing about what I'm doing. I think my night of pampering worked well for me, although laying in the bathtub so long made my neck stiff, which has caused a headache for most of the day. (See, Alanis? It's everywhere!) Now there's only one more day until a glorious weekend! And Fridays are usually fairly okay.
I decided on my way home for lunch that it's time to give in and buy a new car. Well, not new. We don't do new cars--which is, of course, why we actually save money, for those keeping score. No car payment, no full coverage insurance. Anyway, we've put up with my car for a year and a half, which I figure is long enough to keep a car that's no longer suitable to drive for longer than thirty miles. Also, it's getting--no exaggeration--about the same gas mileage as one of those monstrous "I-have-more-money-than-I-need-and-also-a-small-penis" Cadillac SUVs. (I'm sorry, but does anyone actually like those?!) This seems suspicious for a four-cyclinder Mazda, what do you think? I told M to research cars this afternoon and he nearly passed out from the ecstasy of it all. The boy loves cars, and can entertain himself for months with the prospect of a new car before deciding to keep what we have. I think he thought it was Christmas when I announced my new car plan. Perhaps that's what I'll give him for his birthday--the opportunity to buy me a new car. Funny how that *is* actually something that could pass for a present of sorts.. he's really weird about things with wheels and ignitions. I don't think he'll let me totally get away with it, though.
I've decided that I should make some bedroom curtains so I can play with the new sewing machine. Or maybe a bed skirt. I need the bed-skirt more but it scares me more than the curtains--maybe that's perverse. I really don't know how to sew but that has never stopped me before. I made a tablecloth for an odd table just before we got married. It's kind of a half-oval, with the back being straight against the wall. I draped the fabric around the table, cut around the bottom, and hemmed it. This is totally why I shouldn't be allowed to sew much. I just don't have the patience for measuring and pinning and all that stuff. I'm more of a.. do it/get it done/see what happens sort of person. I should also not be allowed to build houses or bridges--so far, this at least has not been a problem.
