This morning, I woke up feeling sore from yesterday's descent into the world's longest cave system. As [livejournal.com profile] totte so lovingly described, it was a long walk involving many stairs and much squatting and twisting. I decided that I didn't want to spend my day off feeling miserable, so I jumped out of bed and took some ibuprofen and had a nice hot shower. I then made a point of moving around while straightening up the house. I was feeling pretty proud of myself.. both because I was making myself work when I could very well have just flopped down on the couch and called it a day, but also because it was very clearly helping. I was feeling less and less sore as the day went on!

After lunch, it was time for some computer-type working, and then my mom called, so I spent most of the afternoon not moving around much. Imagine my surprise when I got up afterward--or attempted to get up--and nearly fell on my ass when I failed to bring myself to a fully vertical position at the same time as the chair decided to take a little spin on the hardwood floor. That was fun! I have been waddling around like a pregnant duck ever since. When M came home, I walked outside to the edge of the porch and stepped down onto the driveway, and he laughed so hard that he forgot to get out of the car. (He's still sitting out there.) (Mainly because I locked him in.) (That was a joke.) I look like a great big dork, is what I'm saying, and I feel like a great big bruised dork. Apparently I overdid it while under the effects of ibuprofen and morning day-off happiness, and I am now lamenting my prideful attempts to circumvent nature.

M, ever helpful, told me about an obscure Swedish proverb, which he translated as "Pride goeth before a fall." Okay, he didn't actually translate it as "goeth" but it did make me laugh because.. well, that one isn't quite unknown in English either, right? :)

But! I was really productive this morning and I've had a generally fantastic day off. And then Mr. Mailman came and brought the last of my birthday presents--the Himalayans CD that I've been asking for. Obscure Counting Crows related music! M has been putting off buying it for me because he didn't figure that he would like it. And guess what? HE WON'T! I can already tell and I'm only three songs in! But you all know how I feel about most of his music so I figure turn about is fair play.

Also, I used my rice cooker tonight. And guess what? It makes rice! Well. It's really the only thing I can say about it, isn't it?

Oh, here's a question. M and I are going to a wedding Memorial Day weekend. It is "semi-formal", at 7:30 pm, and the groom is a friend of M's from his last job. We went out to dinner with them recently and I think we all had a fun time, but I don't know either of them all that well. There's a dinner reception afterward. What should I wear? The internet, after a brief googling, leads me to believe that I should be wearing something quite dressy.. in which case I could wear the dress I wore in [livejournal.com profile] stewlis's wedding. It's long and satiny, with a little jacket-type thing with small sparkly bits. The thing is.. the wedding is in Kentucky, not New York, and those guidelines are sometimes a little.. well, meant for urban areas. I have never personally been to a wedding where the guests wore something more than church dresses.. which is my other option. I just bought a new church-type dress. It's a little gauzy, and looks nicely springy. What do you think? Anyone? Think the church dress will be okay? I really don't want to wear the other one.. in part because it's at my parents house and I can't try it on to see if it still fits. But I don't want to be underdressed, either, if it actually does turn out to be that fancy. I tried to get M to email the groom to ask and he had no idea what exactly to say, so if you tell me to ask them.. tell me what to say. ;)
