work work work
Jul. 23rd, 2006 09:34 pmBoyo and I have had a house weekend. We have company coming over for the next two Saturdays (theoretically--haven't really confirmed either of them.) Also, we're sick of the bedroom project. We're so close. Sooo close. Might be done tomorrow this week close. We have spackled. We have sanded. We have primed. We have sanded. We have spackled. We have sanded. We have primed. We are now--like how I say we, when in fact I am typing this journal entry and my husband is doing the work?--doing touch-ups of spackle after using a flashlight to detect the tiny imperfections that need filled or sanded further. Tomorrow, we sand and prime again, and then.. we PAINT. We bought the paint last night.. a nice gray. I have been somewhat obsessed with putting gray on a wall ever since I did a pre-moving-in photoshop project of changing wall colors in the living room and realized how nice it would look with the white trim. Here's hoping it doesn't look like crap because if it does I will feel like a moron. We also bought three square abstract pieces of art last time we were in Sweden that are all gray and blue and white, so I can't wait to see them up on the wall.
We are trying to figure out if we would really have gotten into all of this if we had known what a big job it was going to be to remove the stupid wallpaper. We had no choice but to remove it eventually because of all the bubbles, but I'm thinking we would have procrastinated a little more if we had realized what bad shape the walls below were. It looks great now with just the primer up.
Anyway, so beyond the bedroom projects, the boy also mowed the jungle that is our yard today (kind of a big job due to crappy lawn and crappy lawnmower.) Meanwhile, I have cleaned bathrooms and finished unpacking (!!! it's only been almost six months..) and organized the little storage room and cooked and cleaned the kitchen (a thousand times) and changed the sheets and did the laundry and ran out to buy primer and also helped with the wall project. M is getting almost all of the credit because he's done a really nice job, and has been doing most of that while I've been doing maintenance stuff. There are a lot of reasons for that but one of the biggest ones is that I am a wimp and he is too good to me.
Also, I can't stand to be dusty. I sanded almost half of the room this morning and then had to shower again. Again. At 10:30 a.m. That just isn't right.
I just (in the course of a conversation, at least) yelled into the bedroom, "You people have funny names!" Because, there is nothing like cultural acceptance and understanding when one is in a multi-cultural relationship. Peace, man.
